Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Much easier to just add a separate (PCI, and there's one PCI-E 1x) hardware tuner. Theater 550 Pro, Hauppage 150 MCE are just a few that comes to mind. Your PVR ability would also not be tied to your AIW when you need to upgrade your video card later.
FFdshow can do h.264's IIRC. It's free.
mythTV is linux only. The built-in tuner on an AIW is not hardware based, though, so most PVR programs won't work. The bundled software sucks but might be your best bet as I am not sure GB-PVR (free PVR program) works with an AIW (I think not).
Hate to toot my own horn, but the RAM in my sig is $230. Micron D9 chips, overclocks to 900 MHz and beyond.
Again, if all you are going for is 3GHz, your original choice is fine.
Don't get 1k PSU's for the sake of the "1kW" thing. Amps, not watts.
Any [good brand!] PSU >650-700W should have enough amps on the +12 to handle G80 SLI's.
Your budget is $300? Why don't you get a 7950GT then? Most are coming down to the 270's after rebate.
Oh, and DX9 does not require SM3.0. The Geforce FX cards don't support SM3.0 either (and they are DX9).
QFT. No need to spend $40 more on a E6400 if 3.0GHz is all you are aiming for. The RAM is not the greatest, but it should be more than good if you run it at 1:1.
As for a $200 video card, try the x1950pro/7900gs - although if you don't game a lot you can go even lower, like the 7600gt's.
The black G.skill's have Micron D9 memory IIRC, they're great overclockers. The green ones use Elpheda (sp?) chips, which I have heard are more value-oriented.
If you want to get the black G.skill's, you can save more money by getting an E6300 or E6400 instead of the E6600 if you are going...
If you read the specs carefully, this temp spec is referring to Tcase, or the thermal diode on the IHS. That's different than what Core Temp or TAT measures (they measure from the DTS at the core). Tjunction (or throttling temp) for Conroes is 85C. Thus, this explains the 15-20C discrepancy...
No. I'm a noob at it. It's a Corsair Nautilus 500 - the [H] review said it is fairly decent.
My temps are on load too. My cores differ by about 1-3 C as well.
I am fairly sure with an Rage Theater 200 card (like your ATI PCI tuner), only the DAO/MDAC and the driver is required. I never installed any of the other stuff.
Those temps are fine - Mine E6400 at 3.2 @ 1.35v reaches 55C on core temp - and that's on water!
I would say the real danger zone for Core temp is ~70C.
