AMD Ryzen Threadripper 5000 Series "Genesis Peak" Processor Lineup Could Begin with a 16-Core Model

You're not wrong but it doesn't work out well in my use case. On X570 you have 36 addressable PCI-e lanes 20 on the CPU and 16 on the chipset. (Don't forget that you lose lanes for CPU -> Chipset) The board makers usually peal off a few lanes for stuff like onboard ethernet, sound, high speed...

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 5000 Series "Genesis Peak" Processor Lineup Could Begin with a 16-Core Model

For me I would like to run 2-4 M.2 drives with dual GPUs and 10GBe or better networking... For 99% of users X570 X490 is perfectly fine. More AI/ML/Data Science with some other random vm/container/development tasks.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 5000 Series "Genesis Peak" Processor Lineup Could Begin with a 16-Core Model

I really hope there is a 16core model.... I don't really need more cores but I need the PCI-e lanes.

NVIDIA Allegedly Moving Ampere to 7nm TSMC in 2021

This ^^^^^ you just dont move a chip to a new fab and process. The chips are designed with both fab capability and process in mind not to mention the NDAs where usually a team can only have access to one fabs design docs. A super refresh next summer on TSMC sure. Moving exciting cards that...

Threadripper or 3900X - mixed use.

For me at least workstation gets the big box. I would ideally have the 24/32c threadripper with 128gb of ram and something like the 10900K with the 3080ti. I've been doing a lot of software builds and AI/DL/ML experimentation. It will do some video editing/encoding too. I was going to go...

Threadripper or 3900X - mixed use.

Should have it mostly running this weekend it will be end of next week before its at full speed. I live in BFE and shipping times are a bit long right now (cooler and GPU are lagging)... I can pull the 5700XT out of game rig and use the stock cooler worst case. Like OP this machine is going to...

Threadripper or 3900X - mixed use.

I will find out this weekend. Picking up a 3900X and X470 board from a friend... I also belong to the camp of selling my 1600/B350 combo for an intel box. So we shall see.

Threadripper or 3900X - mixed use.

To add to this... I just found out Ryzen 3000 supports 128GB of RAM..... I need to count PCI-e lanes but that does change some stuff for me.

    WTB X299 or Threadripper System

Thank you for the information. I am well aware of what I'm getting into with both platforms. Though I do appreciate the confirmation of my research. 2nd Gen TR probably doesn't make the most sense but if I could find a decent deal it would still be faster than these X5660's :) I wish I didn't...
