Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

Contemplating moving over to a hardware raid controller to get off raid 0 but get those type of speeds
I may be totally wrong about this, but isn't FreeNAS software based RAID, so why do you need the hardware RAID Card?
If you want to expand your setup, you could use a SuperMicro card that costs $100, no raid, but provides an interface for 8 more SATA drives. Connects with PCI slot, although...
Hello... edit... long freaking post
I have tried to do a fair bit of research for this project, but I am basically lost when it comes to what hardware I need, or what option I should pursue (I'm guessing WHS will work fine, but a NAS with RAID 5 would probably also be adequate)

If you get a Y-Connector from your computer output (RCA Output, no sub out) to powered speakers and the energy sub, does that reduce the power/volume of the speakers overall?
I would imagine it does, but I'm not sure, nor do I know how much it'd reduce the sound levels by... I could increase...
If you have winrar (I don't think winzip will work)... copy the contents of the cd onto a folder on your desktop or anywhere. Right click on the setup.exe, or any other file, and see if you can extract the content...
Once you've extracted all the stuff into that folder...
Go to device...
Have you tried going through device manager -> update drivers... then select the drivers from the cd?
Might not get all the bells and whistles, but it should at least install the drivers required for windows to send audio to your headphones
One thing you should know/realize about Windows Vista and presumably Windows 7 is that gaming audio, if it attempts to use EAX or directsound is butchered quite significantly. At least that's what I recall. It's basically to make Windows more stable.
