I'm going to buy a good ~$2000 laptop for gaming and coding. Any Recs?

I love my Toshiba X505-Q8104X. It does have an 18" 1920 x 1080p screen and is a little weighty with the power brick. But after throwing an SSD in it crushes anything I throw at it and surprisingly has 2.5 hr battery life with general office use without going into the eco utility to wring even...

G73 Sandy or Sager with i7 and 470m

The Sager will be the best performance of the options you had. Also I think the processor is a desktop version and the video card is modular so you may have an upgrade path there in the future if you want it. Congratulations on the second child. I have 2 little girls myself. If I would...

G73 Sandy or Sager with i7 and 470m

I just bought the Toshiba Qosmio X505-8104 with the Sandy Bridge i7 2630, 8GB of RAM, a GTX460m, and 2 hard drives which I replaced one with an SSD for booting, apps and games. It is awesome, I came from a dual core AMD 64 X2 with 8800GT and this thing smokes that like crazy. Every day...

Plantronics Voyager 520 will not install with Windows 7?

I have the same problem with my Plantronics Voyager 520. It seems the driver written into Windows 7 is the problem as Plantroncs does not write drivers for their bluetooth headsets. I have tried using an internal Toshiba laptop bluetooth adapter and a Rocket Fish external USB adapter and both...

Moving to a SFF case (space limited) ...

Yeah I know it was over your size limit. I like the LanBox Lite but I would suggest buying a 3rd 60mm fan for over the slots and I plan to mod my single front 90mm fan into 2 x 80mm or 90mm fans, I may loose my hard drive cage in the process but that is not a big deal.

Moving to a SFF case (space limited) ...

    At 17 x 12 x 9.1 inches I like the Thermaltake LanBox Lite. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133045

From the Nvidia website the 9800GT is not supported for hybrid SLI.

    L4D BSOD

I have been reading about lock ups and blue screens with L4D as well it sounds like a L4D update issue or Nvidia driver issue.

Noise level differences between the various gtx 200 models

If your budget allows for a 285 I would get it but if not I would lean towards a 260 216.

    Hard Locked L4D

Sounds like a video card hardware or driver issue. I would lean towards hardware with the oddly colored screen you were getting and crashing once the system heats up after 20+ minutes.

    My CPU Bottleneck?

I also think that 3 Ghz overclock should be enough for the 280 depending on the game and other factors like resolution and AA.

looking to upgrade from my 8800GTS 512mb

    I too am pondering a similar upgrade and I have chosen a 260 216 version over the 4870 1GB.
