    ZFSguru NAS fileserver project

All this is sad, ZFSguru was amazing. But the more important is Jason, I really hope he's fine. Their is a contact phone # provided if you WHOIS the zfsguru.com domain. Look like he from UK. Maybe someone from UK could phone to see if he's fine..

If only these came in x16 adapters for HP SAS Expander

Look like a good way to power an expander card in an additional chassis without using an useless motherboard! Nice find!

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

Great new feature, I'm still running the first preview up for 18 days so far with no problem. Since I switched to SMB for my media player everything is fine. Will reinstall once final version of 0.1.7 is out and do some more benchmark, It work fine but I guess I could get faster speed by adding...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

Quick update, I'm using SMB with my server for 6 or 5 days now and didn't got any lags, tried again with NFS and I got lag again. So their is either a problem with my media player NFS client or the NFS server. Either way I don't care as long SMB work fine. Will try GNOP once the new preview...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

Yes their is no writing at all, it's a standalone media player not an HTPC so I can't change the NIC. It happen after long period of time so all disk are probably shutdown I guess. Does FreeBSD have this kind of powersaving mode?

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

But my point is that with the same media player using the same gigabit switch with the same cables this kind of slow down never happened with my previous Win 2008 server which was an old Athlon 64 single core with 2 GB of RAM and one 1TB disk for both data and OS. Not the greatest setup ever but...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

I'm using a Gigabit switch with 6 feets Cat6 cable, The media player use a 100Mbit NIC but this problem never occurred when I was using my old Win2008 server. Like I said this happen sometimes after a long period of inactivity so nothing is writing to the server. (Nothing other on the network...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

I use 5x WD20EARS HDD. I transfered all my data, is their anyways to do benchmark without killing the pool, like just using the raidz pool that is allready here? Can I try the GNOP without destroying the pool? The problem I have right now is that after a long amount of time when I try to...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

Made some read test with my HDI Dune player (100Mbit/s NIC). With my "old" Win 2008 R2 server (only one 2TB HDD) I was getting read speed of about 9.1MByte/s With my FreeBSD server with raidz I get using SMB 8.9MByte/s and with NFS 11MByte/s :D More than enough for watching Blu-ray...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

Finished my 64GiB test this morning. My Raidz number are great I guess. Will transfer my stuff on the server tonight and will make some "real world" experiment with it. ZFSGURU-benchmark, version 1 Test size: 64.000 gigabytes (GiB) Test rounds: 3 Cooldown period: 5 seconds Number of...

The log don't report that tuning but I already set it to 256MB. Don't remember how much it affected performance, will try with default value. Will run a 64MiB test for both raid0 and raidz overnight to get right value for seq. write.

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

After much testing I guess I've find the magic numbers for my system. I guess once FreeBSD have true support for 4K HDD this will improve RaidZ. Test done with 4GiB size. ZFSGURU-benchmark, version 1 Test size: 4.000 gigabytes (GiB) Test rounds: 2 Cooldown period: 5 seconds Number...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

My result so far, https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B_E57-VbN9_HYmFiNDY2MmMtMWY2OC00N2I3LTk2MDUtYzVjN2ZiNjhkY2Vh&hl=en&authkey=CM7G84gL I used 1GiB for size, I guess it's too low to take any conclusion :S Any tuning I've try didn't seam to make much improvement. But it's hard to tell what...
