Quiet high-end ZFS NAS home file server, Dec '09 edition

Not completely sure what you mean here, since I mentioned reliability at least twice in my previous post. But in case you are talking about a component drill-down, * I want the storage to be reliable. If a drive has a silent read error, I want it to be detected and reported. I want it to be...

Quiet high-end ZFS NAS home file server, Dec '09 edition

Hi all, I'm back to the task of building a reliable file server, and it's almost March 2010. Any updates? Should I still be looking at ZFS and Sun OS? Anything new on the scene that I should know about in terms of cases, hard drives, mobos, CPUs, maybe even a prebuilt reliable storage...

Quiet high-end ZFS NAS home file server, Dec '09 edition

[Cross-posted at SPCR] I want to build some really reliable storage for my data, and it seems that ZFS is the only filesystem at the moment that does live checksumming. That rules out DroboPro, so I'm looking to building a quiet ZFS NAS that would start with 6 1TB or larger hard drives. I'd...

    NEC 2490WUXi - screen shakes

DVI, from my laptop's docking station. Same laptop and docking station and DVI cable had no problems with an HP LP2475 a few months ago. Same laptop, identical docking station, another DVI cable and HP 2335 => no shaking. I've never seen this kind of shaking in a monitor.

    NEC 2490WUXi - screen shakes

Apparently I'm the only one. The monitor keeps shaking the image once every few minutes now, hours after I turned it on.

    NEC 2490WUXi - screen shakes

I've had the NEC MultiSync LCD2490WUXi for three weeks and I noticed the screen sometimes shakes very briefly, to the left. The shaking happens most often after the monitor wakes up from standby. Has anyone else seen this?

Rocketfish Bluetooth Laser Mouse first impressions

What is the update rate of this mouse? You can test it using DirectX mouse rate checker. Also, what is the lag? I don't know of a software to test that, but you can probably tell from your experience with the mouse.

    Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

Wired sucks, we can all agree on that. Also, what if the Mamba's battery doesn't last for an entire day? You'll have to plug it in. I much prefer the Logitech G7, which comes with 2 batteries. One stays in the mouse, while the other one charges in the wireless receiver. When the mouse battery...

That's some keen sense of observation. No comments on the Brain Toniq though, or the training knife blade in the center picture?

NEC 2490WUXi - The Full Story

I found the NEC LCD2490WUXi for sale at a store that delivers to California and I can pick it up myself. They have two variants: LCD2490WUXIBKSV ($1,224) and LCD2490WUXI-BK ($1,089). *EDIT*: I figured out in the meantime that the "SV" version comes with the Spectraview calibrator.

    Time to Refresh: LCD2490WUXi

Thanks. In the meantime I also found this confirmation from a NEC employee.

    Time to Refresh: LCD2490WUXi

I'm pretty sure you know what you're talking about, but the Spectraview II FAQ question "What are the differences between the LCD2490WUXi and LCD2490WUXi2" doesn't say anything about removing the A-TW filter. Is that document making an omission? I did read elsewhere that the documentation can be...

    Time to Refresh: LCD2490WUXi

In the meantime, the NEC LCD2490WUXi2 has been released (it's $1100 from NEC's online store, albeit out of stock) and by all indications, it's not wide gamut: the PDF brochure reads "Color Gamut Coverage: AdobeRGB** - 75.2% / sRGB - 96.7%" the Spectraview II FAQ reads "Standard gamut...

    Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

@CLock3: thanks, cross-posted. @thepawn: I updated the post to say that I'm looking for a silent 24" IPS monitor that's not wide-gamut, and I'll power it with a data storage system I'm building. Anyway, you wouldn't believe how rare standard-gamut IPS monitors are. It looks like I'll go for a...
