wow Free BSD what an amazement.

I dual booted fBSD and Windows for a long time using a single HD. The way I did it was install Windows first leaving plenty of unallocated space on the drive. Once that was done, install FreeBSD on that unallocated space, but make sure to choose the "FreeBSD boot manager" during the...

    Server questions

I'd combine the 1GHz machine w/ 80 gig HD into a main server (web, file, and print) and setup the 366 w/ 4 gig HD as a headless firewall/router. I'd install OpenBSD on the firewall box, and FreeBSD on the main server. $0.02

Colours messed up on new LCD

I had a CRT that got fried during a storm a few years ago. I replaced it with a nice LCD monitor that received rave reviews from all the hardware sites. At that time, I had a nvidia card and its 2d quality was fine on the CRT, but was absolutely dreadful on the new LCD monitor. Man, I was...

What Desktop Enviornment is Your Favorite?

Konqueror can be had by installing kdebase. Alternatively, you could install Nautilus -- Gnome's file manager. DISCLAIMER: I'm just a FreeBSD user that installs everything from source using its Ports Collection, so I won't even attempt to try and explain how to install either one of those...

It's offical, apple moving to x86 Intel chips by June 6th 2006

Its 1 - 2 years for the transition, and 3 - 4 years for support. Maybe longer for support, just look at how long OS 9 hung around post-OS X.

I'd still buy one, 3-4 years is a long time. What do you expect, for everyone to wait until 2007? Your machines are not obsolete, but if you want to get technical you could say they were obsolete the moment you bought them. Just the nature of the industry, PC or Mac. Hell, I guess my car is...

You're saying OS X is just another pretty face with nothing else to offer. I disagree.

From that same article, It's also very clear that MySQL and other server apps are not developed with OS X in mind first. Hell, for years it was recommended that you compile MySQL with linuxthreads on FreeBSD for better performance.

I wonder if Microsoft has been secretly porting every version of Windows to PowerPC. You know, just in case.

Yeah. 32bit single core CPU's are clearly the wave of the future.

    There is no free lunch.

Think of them as Storm Troopers named Fedora, SuSE, Mandrake, Ubuntu, etc sharing the same DNA, but having different personalities. OK, so maybe that's a totally lame analogy, but you get the picture because "Linux" is just a kernel.

Yup. It appears that Microsoft has in fact asked the community sites to remove all screenshots of Longhorn build 5048. http://www.windowsitpro.com/windowspaulthurrott/Article/ArticleID/46188/windowspaulthurrott_46188.html

Hopefully, they will nailed down Longhorn's UI sometime before SP2, 2012, or MacOS 10.6.8, which ever comes first.
