Ok .. but if I did change this for a TRUE or scythe, would I see a "significant" difference in temperatures at idle/load?
If it helps, here are my results with the temperatures. Reduce the load temperatures by 4-5 degrees celcius as the ones[both idle/load] in the spreadsheet were taken...
I have that heatsink, what sort of temperatures do you get with the Q6600?
I have idle/load at 32/46 celcius on stock with this heatsink and ambient temperatures are 21 celcius. 32 idle when ambient is 21 isn't a good sign, is it?
Ok, ordered it all with the following changes. Didn't bother with the soundcard, and went instead with a BFG 8800gts.
So all in all,
Abit IP35-Pro
Q6600 G0 SLACR with Zerotherm Nirvana + 120mm fan
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair DDR2 6400 2x256Mx64 non-ECC 2x240 DIMM unbuffered 5-5-5-18 64bit OS...
Oh btw, I am going to change my IP-35 Dark Raider to the Pro version as I have noticed the few faults that are there seem to be more common among the IP35-e and the IP35 DR.
Ya, I did read that thread, but the ones with the new zalman heatsink (which is not the one in the link) but this one have samsung ram chips and they are alright. Temperatures are much more less than other 8800gt boards.
Its 4 phase, but so is the IP35-Pro and that has received plenty of good reviews. I think the Asus ones have 8 phase, but how would the 4/8 phase make a difference. There are lots of threads I have read and some are hitting 3.0/3.2 without any problem on the 4 phase ABITs?
Well in that case, I guess I will just settle for this Corsair as its the cheapest I am getting among all 3 brands, since the G.skill and others are about £10 higher than this elsewhere, and I am getting most of my stuff from Scan, so no extra delivery charges.
Right .. after lots of reading and lots of help, I think this setup is my best bet:
Q6600 G0 SLACR with Zerotherm Nirvana as the cooler
ABIT IP35 Dark Raider
4GB G.Skill PC2-8000 (5-5-5-15)
Asus EN8800GTS 512mb
Samsung SH-S203D 20X DVD±RW/RAM/DL Serial ATA
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi...
Gigabyte 8800gt
Asus 8800gts
I am undecided between two cards, the price is the same yet one has the zalman cooler, and the other one the stock cooler. Undecided because both obviously have better cooling, I am more towards the Asus coz its exhausts the heat rather than keep it in the...
Thanks for that Danny, quite a bit of help there. Let's say I wasn't going to run 1:1, I noticed you have G.skill also, how far above 800 can you get it? Is that the ddr2-800 with 4-4-4-12 timings?
Well, i live in the UK .. so US deals like newegg are no-go for me. :(
Intended build is a IP35 Dark raider + q6600. Planning on overclocking, but I doubt if I will hit more than 400 fsb and I was thinking about a 1:1 memory divider. Would it make a big difference to opt for the pc2-8000?
