    Hmm that's definitely another option I should consider. However, would there be a performance penalty because all 24 drives are actually connected to 8 SAS ports through the expander?

    I'm getting a X8SI6-F and a Norco 4224 for a ZFS box. I tried to order the Chenbro CK23601 but it's taking forever to ship, so I'm now looking at a 9201-16i instead. Would this be a better option anyway, since it will have 24 real ports instead of cramming everything through 8 ports via expander?

    Same situation here, I ordered at the beginning of August and the ETA has been pushed back three times, now 12th September. And I have a feeling it's going to be pushed back again :(
