my 3770k idle @ 1.6GHz with core temperature around 40c. same like my previous 2600k. anyway my ambient temperature around 35c.
when it accelerate to 4.6GHz stressed either using prime95 or linX, it shows 85c for core temperature :D

update: after did some experiment, the voltage is high even though idle @ 1.6GHz when i set manual turbo boost more that x47 for single core & enable PLL overvolt. if i use less than 47, for example 46 or 45 and disable PLL overvolt, i managed to get 0.7-0.9v for vcore when idle @ 1.6GHz. :D...

i pissed because my previous i7-860 vcore dropped to 0.8v when system is not doing anything. but this i7-2600 still using 1.1v when downclocked to 1.6GHz :D
i think you are not reading my previous properly.
i am not using manual voltage. i am using auto with offset
and still the idle voltage is more than 1v.
so the conclusions: many reviewer from hardware portal/website are liar! power saving my ass. can drop down to 0.6v my ass

your problem is similar like me, man! i don't know whose fault, BIOS or processor chips. i bet in the future either each board manufacturer will release bios fix to fix this idle vcore overvoltage, or intel will release new stepping/revision of their second gen i7 processor.
the vcore that i saw is coming from cpu-z. even from aisuite II software also showing similar reading of vcore. and from aisuite II i saw that cpu usage is around 8-10W which is not "quite power saving". ;)

no. i just use turbo boost, with custom setting in bios, eg: 1core=49, 2core=47 and so on. perhaps, your idling voltage is higher than me! your 1.6GHz using 1.27v ?!?!

is that normal, this processor using 1.1++v of vcore when EIST & C1E plus the EPU engine running at auto? this things suppose to give "power saving" right? but what i saw, the vcore never goes down below 1v even when idling and speedstep goes down to 1.6G
so whats happening...
