    Intel Pulls “Racially Insensitive” Ad

27 Million slaves, right? I assume these south-east asians are blacks, right? Oh, they aren't? They are whites? Damn, that sucks for your argument. So, those are probably mostly white people, right? 2 million of them? Central and eastern europe, and north america? Mostly white, right...

    Intel Pulls “Racially Insensitive” Ad

No. Best friend in high school. Not just some random guy I knew. 4 years, together, side by side, he had my back, I had his. At his house twice a week, him at mine just as often. Comment wasn't asking my expertise, it was reaction to reading the newspaper, seeing TV, or just interacting with the...

    Intel Pulls “Racially Insensitive” Ad

BULL, FUCKING, SHIT. If this advertisement had a bunch of korean women working festidiously in front of sewing machines, or mexican's hanging drywall, or indians (I mean from india, not native americans) wearing doctors gown, or japanese people with camera's there wouldn't have been a...

    What RAID card to use?

Since it's just a file server, and not other things, I'd say the highpoint will be plenty fine for your needs. Gigabit networking at a theoretical maximum 100% efficiency (which doesn't exist..) , would afford you 120megs a second, and with (if I read you right) 2 seperate 6 drive raid 5s, there...

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10s plagued?

Why can't you get it RMA'd? 7200.10 drives haven't even been in existence for 5 years, so, seagate's warranty should still be valid. FWIW, we have 300 quantity 7200.10 drives in deployment (for a year or so) and have had only 1 fail. I have had 8-14 of them in my own machine at any one...

    raid 0 raptors or 1 raptor 1 750gb wd

Where's your backup medium? :-) Every drive you add to a raid0 decreases the reliability of the raid0. 2 drives? You're twice as likely to lose data.. 4 drives? 4 times as likely.. see a pattern? I'd personally run the raid0+1 750's,, but that's me.

    defragmenting a 5TB RAID5 array

Raise your hand if you think a 5TB raid array is not something a 'small' business would be using. You, yes, you, in the back,, you only need to raise on hand. Listen to unhappy mage. :-) Although the defragmenting isn't going to be that necessary. How small are these files? 1 cluster...

    seagate or western digital

Never had that happen in my business. We -ALWAYS- get our warranties honored. The reason why Retail warranties are less for some manufacturers, is because they know that the people who buy retail harddrives, more often than not, don't know what the fuck they are doing, and are more likely to...

why no SATA dvdroms and cdroms?

To elaborate.. Not until you get up to HDDVD or BlueRay, (100-150 megs a second) will you need to worry about pata vs sata, because even a 48X read speed DVD (if there existed such a thing) would only be ~60 megs a second, so you'd still be at 50% or 40% of the potential of the interface anyhow...

    BBC Launches Free Internet TV

Wow, you people make your lives so complex. There are so many ways to make your IP (and therefore, location) appear to be something other than it is. When I lived in las vegas, I would appear to be in lakeland, florida, to any online presence. FWIW, I think I'm currently tracing down to...

why no SATA dvdroms and cdroms?

I posted "I've had them for over a year" then you asked "have you used them" Whose the a-hole in that equation? Who would bill engvall give a sign to? The second part, was because I had -already said- everything that the other guy was repeating, so I felt that nobody even bothered to...

    seagate or western digital

Or it could just be back luck. I usually run 8 to 16 drives in a system, and on my upgrade path from 300->400->500->750, I've only had to return -1- seagate (although the 500s were maxtor branded seagates) So, that means, We're talking about 1 out of 52 drives (12 300s, to 16 400s, 12 500s...

Realistic? 4x32GB SSD / Sata or Pata Drive

This isn't about the speed. it's about the quiet, and the no moving parts. The heat output, and power consumption of a 32gb ssd drive is basically nil. Also, that iram raid will be 8gb, (assuming 2 irams), and will cost about the same as the 32gb ssd drive. The raptors are the bargain in this mix.
