Hi, on the 27" version is the gamma shift (i.e. brightness and color uniformity) noticeable on the sides, compared to the center, when sitting at 1 m or less from the monitor ? This is best checked in the dark, with images like this. Thanks.
That Philips looks tempting indeed, at least on paper, with its improved contrast (5000:1 ?) and speed. However since it's a new (revision of) panel, who can say if they got it right ?
In theory it's the better monitor compared to the Samsung, but its actual performance is something that will...
Thanks for the more detailed info on black crush :)
For me the wash out effect of gamma shift off-axis is much worse than the black crush which may occur straight on (since then the whole image is affected, not only some details). I think this effect is the biggest VA drawback, assuming the...
I would. I'm buying this specifically for multimedia (photo + video) so dark details are important. Even if the first square is not visible, what about the second ? Or third ? ;) If anyone takes the test, be sure you look at the intended square straight on and not from an angle, since otherwise...
Apparently there are newer MVA models on the market which are faster. The Samsung 650 series seems to have better speed and to be allright for office and multimedia (although I would still be interested in a general image quality comparison between it and the F2380MX).
Also there are news of...
Thanks for the comments. Still, to sort this out rigorously :) , are all squares visible in the page on Lagom below ? Especially at low to medium brightness (20%-50%) and on-axis (important, since off-axis greys change and it becomes irrelevant).

PS...
While that may be true, I was not asking about the panel (same as on the Benq EW2430 ?) but about the final performance of the monitor. There have been many complaints on recent VAs about black crush, and I'm curious as to where this model stands in this regard.
So I'd still like to know how...
Thanks for the info Crakso. I guess then the 650 is fast enough for multimedia.
I'm still curious about the dark (near black) details, since some VAs tend to have black crush. Is this a problem with this model, in dark scenes with near black details ? Compared to other VAs and especially IPSs.
Does anybody know about this ?
I think I read they have the same panel but different settings (something like EW2430 ≥ BL2400PT > EW2420), mainly improvements about dark (near black) details and colors, but I'd like to hear from someone who knows for sure.
Does the BL2400PT = EW2430 ? Or are there differences ?
I understand that both are better than the older EW2420, but how do they compare in terms of image quality ?
Hi tokie (and to other users of S24A650 and S27A650 as well), could you comment on some aspects regarding this model:
- are the default colors right (do they look natural, balanced and vivid) ? Is there significant black crushing (loss of dark details) by default ? If these problems are...
Thanks for all the interesting and informative opinions so far. About the Eizos, actually I had considered them, but unfortunately where I can order them from they are twice as expensive as the others, way out of my budget (350$). Regarding IPS, this confirms my impression that they are good...
Hello folks and merry Xmas. I am getting ready to buy a new 23-24" monitor for movies and I am not sure whether to go IPS or PVA / MVA. For an IPS monitor I would choose Dell H2412M, but I don't know if an alternative like the NEC EX231WP or the Samsung S24A650 or Benq EW2430 / BL2400pt would do...
