    Plextor SATA DVD/CD writer won't boot first in startup sequence

    That review says the drive will work with any chipset that supports SATA. I just bought that drive a few weeks ago and I'll be installing Linux soon as well. Please post a solution if you find one as I may have the same problem.

    Best price on a 2001FP Dell Ultrasharp?

    I just checked Dell Home and they have the Dell UltraSharp 2001FP listed at $799.20 w/ free 3-5 day shipping for Dell Home customers. Tax brings the total closer to $850 though. I've seen them go for a lower price on E-Bay, but I don't know what risks are involved when you go that route...
