    Aurora Design's DeToX

4 days to go, here's the final update! Project DeToX: Using ECS's new 'M-DTX' motherboard, I am aiming to produce a wooden HTPC chassis reminiscent of art-deco era electronics. Adding to this theme, the design is to resemble a well-used product, as if the PC was used heavily for years, then...

    Aurora Design's DeToX

Soooo here's an update: Varnished the wood of the chassis: Bought a pack of brass strips from eBay, I think they bring the look together. You press the engraved power logo on the top strip to power the system on - there's a power switch hidden behind the brass. And a quickie look...

    Aurora Design's DeToX

Ok folks, time for an update. I live in a sub-tropical climate here in Auckland, New Zealand. This leads to 99% humidity in summer - for weeks on end! Unfortunately the humidity was absorbed by DeToX v1 before the stain cured, (and thus before I could seal it). This led to a massive warp of the...

    DONE Todays Sale: (10) Xeon s771 E5420 cpu's (quad 2.5ghz)

@Crosshairs from what I can find your board can only run 5300 series.. unless the board is part # PR704 as a hint for folks out there - with a small piece of tape these CPUs can be bumped to 3ghz, with a marginal bump in TDP. (search xeon BSEL mod) If i wasn't building quad opteron I'd be keen...

The poster is a bunch of album covers - '100 of the best' or something.. My father made it from pages in a book we got on a clearance sale XD The whole thing is like 6 foot by 6 foot!

    Aurora Design's DeToX

Now to consider the top 'vent/window' area. It needs to be somewhat open to enable airflow - the only 'intake' is the front 70mm fan, the only exhaust will be the PSU, so convection is important. What are your thoughts? Please remember to vote for me in the ECS ModMen contest -...

    Aurora Design's DeToX

The beginning: AMD released their DTX and M-DTX form factors in 2004, to answer a need for a standardised form factor like Shuttle's dual slot SFF systems. Unfortunately, like Intel's BTX, the form factor never really took hold outside of OEMs. I've been a fan of the form factor since launch...

Project Bright Panel: 800D, Liquid Cooled, Illuminated Mid Panel

Modding isn't about the hardware (mobo, cpu, gpu), but the chassis. I've seen many an epic build with older components. Older components = cheaper = more money for modding.

    cursor moves by its own

I had a similar issue with a cheap mouse. Turns out one of the LED legs had rusted out. Was making just enough contact to be used.

Building servers for PHP/MySQL web hosting

Yeah, well that is my experience with the Supermicro products, and I assume same goes for the Intel boards. FB-DIMMs on the used market are much cheaper per GB than desktop DDR2.. weird I know.

Building servers for PHP/MySQL web hosting

Quad core 771 Xeon boards need FB-DIMMs. The slot is different. On a positive note, 771 with FB-DIMMs is quad channel, which helps a lot with memory bandwidth.

Have a listen to the LOSIAS designer podcast: http://www.losias.net/showthread.php/889-Episode-4-Special-Designer-Edition-Designing-to-Build?p=16278 Featuring Editor22 himself. Good discussion in there about using CNC machines and how much work actually goes into it - it's not just click a...
