Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Wow - I just had great success using EasyBCD. It took all of two minutes.
I disconnected everything but my OS drive to confirm it works.
Knowing I had to look for "boot sector" made Googling 100x more effective. Thanks!
The fact that you went to such lengths (disconnecting your drive) as a preventative measure suggests there is no way to correct this problem after the fact. Is that right? :(
So I've recently built a new rig. At the time I installed Windows (7 Ultimate x64), I had two drives accessible: my OS drive (SSD) and my data drive (not SSD). Last night, while Windows was running, I received an error reporting that Windows lost communication with the data drive. That was...
Yeah I realize it was not an option for you; I didn't mean to sound accusatory. If I didn't "fix" it, it would just bother me until I did - so I just took the initiative. Even if it doesn't affect my temps.
Now that I've rotated the heatsink this isn't an option - but I could kinda-sorta...
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear I'm not the first one to have done this.
I am still waiting on the harddrive shipment, so I figured I'd go back in and correct the orientation. Probably to a net detriment on my cooling since the thermal paste will be less perfect. But meh!
So in building my new system, I realized a bit late in the process that I had oriented my Hyper 212 Plus improperly.
Oops ...
Anyhow - what kind of an impact will this have on my cooling? What if I move my GPU to the next available PCI-e x16 slot (increasing the distance from the...
Purchased! Thank you for the recap; I had been planning to stick with the 1600MHz RAM prior to reading it.
I can't speculate as to why, but I couldn't agree more about it being absurdly helpful. I don't know if this will sound rude or like a compliment, but I was expecting neither the...
In general I agree with you about rebates. They're a pain and rarely worth the effort. If I don't need the extra power, I'm inclined to stick with the Antec PSU.
And no, haha, the CM690 isn't too fancy. In fact, I think I'll run with that.
And with that ... I think I'm off to start...
Any significant environmental changes in the new apartment? Might you be getting some interference a microwave or another device? This would likely not explain the need to restart the router, however.
If I'm not mistaken, Corsair is offering a $20 rebate, bringing it down to $70 o match the Antec. I mightn't be able to get the UPC code in time for the offer, though. (Also, I have a ton of spare AC cables, so that isn't of grave concern to me.)
Any further thoughts on the case based on...
Thanks for the clarification, bastage. I guess I am a little more comfortable playing it safe and going with the fast RAM, even if it costs me a few bucks. Thank you for that review link - nicely consolidated article.
Also, a friend recommended the Corsair 650TX which is normally higher cost...
Thanks guys, this is really great advice. I was going to be stubborn and chince out by sticking with my old PSU, but since you are clearly leagues and leagues (and leagues) ahead of me here, I'll defer to your advice! Per tiraides' recommendations, I added the PSU and replaced the RAM. Which...
tiraides -
Wow, thanks! I am baffled that I somehow missed that combo - excellent. I have updated my list with the Hyper 212 Plus, and am glad to hear that the Noctua fan isn't necessary (as I've never installed a fan on a heat sink - only done the all-in-one dealies).
I am not opposed to...
I am planning a new system. These are the components I'm leaning towards right now. I've built a few machines in the past but I am not on top of hardware these days, so I am seeking more expert advice.
Of note:
I'm following the "best bang for your buck" guideline; I don't have a particular...
