    ASUS P6T Deluxe @ [H]

Duh... interesting question, and I have no idea what the answer is. It seems to be working for me, but perhaps I shouldn't do it that way. Can someone set us straight on this question? -Fin

    Silverstone FT01 build experience

That's good to know about the hot-swap adapter. I didn't use the one I have, but had been considering changing to it hoping that they had made it fit properly. Now that I know it's also a tight squeeze, I probably won't bother. My motherboard also points the SATA ports right at the drive...

    Silverstone FT01 build experience

I recently finished building the system in my sig and thought I'd share my experiences with the Silverstone FT01 (I got the FT01B non-windowed version). First though, let me say that I like the case overall, but it wasn't the easiest to build with. The good stuff: 1. The build quality is...

    ASUS P6T Deluxe @ [H]

Hi everyone, I recently finished building the system in my sig, and wanted to share a couple of problems I ran into: 1. One of the case fan headers ended up directly under the end of my GTX 280. I had to bend the cables on the fan wire 90 degrees and it JUST fits with the wires touching...

    i7 differences in core temps

Interestingly, for my 920 it's core 2 that runs hottest by a couple degrees C at idle. Under load the difference is negligible though; all cores end up within 1 degree of eachother. Think I'd worry about being abnormal, but since everything evens out under load I figure everything's fine. -Fin

    i7 920 overclocking - safe voltages?

I think you misread that. 1.5-1.65 for vDimm, not vCore ;) Edit: Err... never mind, you mean from the link I quoted. I guess that's what I get for watching movies while talking voltages

    i7 920 overclocking - safe voltages?

Hahaha - so you're just waiting to see what happens to it eh? Now I'm kinda curious too, since that sounds like pretty much what I'm trying to avoid doing by accident ;) I'll play some more with voltages later tonight or tomorrow, but I'm currently downloading Fallout 3 from Steam so it's...

    i7 920 overclocking - safe voltages?

Hahaha - after quite a bit of searching over the past few days I did another search for the heck of it and found this: http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=521 The poster states that Intel recommends the following maximums: * VCore 1.55v * VDimm 1.65v * QPI 1.315v I guess...

    i7 920 overclocking - safe voltages?

Cool, will do. I take it from your first post that you'd consider 1.4v and below safe for 24/7 operation at least. I'm not interested in maxing out the clock speed at the expense of long term functionality, just looking to get what I can safely get out of it :-) -Fin

    i7 920 overclocking - safe voltages?

Thanks for the input. I think you're right that I'm going to run into a thermal wall before a voltage one. Even so, I still want to know what the range I'm working in is and what some common volts are before I start picking my own values :-) -Fin

    i7 920 overclocking - safe voltages?

Hi folks, I just recently set up my new machine (see sig), and have begun playing with overclocking. I've gotten to bclk 180 (3.6ghz, up to 3.78 with all cores fully loaded in prime95) and all I did was set vdimm to 1.64 and vcore to 1.33. With these settings, I idle around 40c, and under...

Taking the i7 plunge, help me pick a motherboard

For what it's worth I just finished building a new P6T based system (in my sig) and I'm very happy with it so far. The P6T and a Thermalright Ultra-120 extreme is a very quiet setup. I have yet to OC anything though, but I have high hopes :) -Fin

BFG es800 2 gone bad anyone else?

I got one for a new build this week. The fan bearing on the first one was bad from the start - it made an awful rattling/ticking noise as it spun. Got a replacement yesterday that's trucking along just fine so far, but it's only been 2 days. Hopefully I won't run into the bad luck you've had...

Why install HSF while MB is in the case?

Good. I'm glad to hear it's a space constraint on your side and not a brain power constraint on mine ;-) -Fin

Why install HSF while MB is in the case?

What's required to set up a test bench? I just set my motherboard on the cardboard box it came in and plugged everything else into it and set it on the desk around the board. Am I doing something dumb? :-) -Fin
