    8800gts SLI to 560 Ti - How much of an improvement?

    This is great advice. A "normal" gtx 560 ti with a decent overclock doesn't require any sort of exoctic cooling solution. And the 560 ti 448 is within ~ 5% of a true 570, and its MRSP is only $14 higher than your budget.

    Keep your eyes peeled on hot deals that come up in the next few months. I just upgraded to a gtx 480 for $182 AR shipped last month, and I've seen many gtx 560 ti's and 6950's for ~ $200 AR lately as well. We should see even more deals in the coming months as 28nm approaches, too.

    +1 I just jumped on that deal today for my wife's laptop at newegg. It also comes with free bf3 right now, so you can either play the game or sell it for $20-30 if you don't need it, manking the deal even better.

    Yeah, this is clearly driver-related. And everybody claiming that it is a psu issues needs to question why it's only happening in 2d/desktop mode instead of during heavy gaming. They need to tweak their driver a bit apparently.

    Um, well, uh, civ5? Don't know about Skyrim, BF3, or Diablo however. Of course, many of the DX11 features are designed to improve gameplay. Civ 5 runs much faster in DX10/11 mode than it does in dx9 mode for example.

    It doens't matter, unlocking the shaders only helps 2-3% anyway. Much better to use a modded 6950 bios instead. Good deal at $200, though only having 1gb will limit it at higher res or in a potential xfire setup. I'd rather pay $225 for a 2gb version.

    Those days aren't necessarily "long gone", but it's hard to predict when a specific new card will do it. 9800 pro or 8800gtx are very difficult to predict, after all. Best guess is when something cool/new/different comes out with dx12 or dx 13 or whatever one camp or the other will be better...

Again, $182 AR on a gtx 480 might be a bit of a stretch, but $200-220 should become common in the next few months as NV partners try to clear them out. 6950 should start to drop down to 200 or lower as well as we get closer to 79x0...

    An earthwatts 500 is a pretty good psu. gtx 460 is an excellent card, it's hard to go wrong with one of those. And if you need more power, they overclock like mad.
