OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

So my linux use cases are not terribly demanding on performance.... should I completely ditch NFS on my network and just go pure SMB? I've never considered that.. I suppose I could still automount and such over SMB. Okay, so starting over now (first the rebuilt OmniOS, now the re-architecting...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

I did reboot and I'm working from the netatalk-3.1 BE now. Okay.. so I didn't know that Mavericks dropped AFP. I guess that means so can I! I do have a number of Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows+Mac clients, so I'll still need a mixed environment of NFS and SMB. Does that make this situation...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

This fixed it. Thanks. Next problem.. now my sharing is no longer working. I guess those settings don't carry over after a rebuild. I have no idea how I had this working before, but I need napp-it to host my SMB shares, NFS exports, and AFP shares all on the same files. I currently have a...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

So I installed OmniOS from scratch using the 151006 USB stick installer. I left things at 151006 (all I did was configure an IP and user). Then I installed napp-it, rebooted, then afp, rebooted. AFP is still not starting and throwing the same error: # /usr/local/sbin/afpd -V ld.so.1...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

I believe you because the older AFP was working on 1008 for me prior to me upgrading using wget. Can I roll that back somehow? So apparently installing AFP on top of OmniOS 1008 is not the correct order of operations? Are you suggesting I should reinstall OmniOS 1006, then install AFP, then...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

    So I just finished upgrading OmniOS (r151004 -> r151008) and Napp-it (0.9b3 -> 0.9d2). After I updated Napp-it, I ran wget -O - www.napp-it.org/afp | perl to update netatalk from 3.0.3 to 3.0.4 and then reboot. Now netatalk isn't working. Did I do something wrong? How can I fix it? I...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Not sure I know how to do that.. I didn't see any option in Napp-it.. I tried it on the command line, but it still isn't working share -F nfs root=192.168.1.82 /giant/giant shareall -F nfs no change

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

I am having permissions problems with my Napp-it NAS. I am running OmniOS (SunOS ALINEA 5.11 omnios-33fdde4 i86pc i386 i86pc) and need a variety of systems to access share folders with fairly strict permissions. The idea of setting world read or write access won't work in my environment. I...

Router/WAP died, need to build out more robust solution

Bummer. It says shipping in April, mass distribution by May. It would only hurt their sales if they announced something a few weeks away and then delayed by a year.

Router/WAP died, need to build out more robust solution

Looks like maybe I should hold off and consider the new Ubiquiti Unifi 802.11ac WAP.. UAP AC http://dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/unifi/UniFi_AP_DS.pdf http://www.ubnt.com/announcing-unifi-3 Similar specs to the UAP Pro, but it supports 802.11ac and does 3x3 on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. The Pro...

Router/WAP died, need to build out more robust solution

So I had a Linksys WRT600N that died on me, and I'm operating in emergency mode on an old Linksys WRT54g that I had previously used as a second WAP to extend my network's coverage. I need to replace the entire network (router, managed switch, WAPs, etc), but for now, getting a long term...

ESXi or Workstation for local VM desktop?

I use VMWare Workstation on my local laptop to do general work-related productivity (email, Word/Excel, web browsing) inside a Win 7 VM. I'm about to build an ESXi server to run some unrelated servers, and I'm wondering if there is there any performance benefit or penalty for running my desktop...

    LG L246W

My PS2 looks normal over component on my LG L246W. I think games look marginally better when played on my HDMI PS3 through the emulation, but it works natively through component as well.
