    Intel 82579LM and 82579V

The only way I was able to get the 82574L NIC to work again was to uninstall the community driver. I would like to have both working agin, are there any updates? I am currently running 5.1 on two esxi boxes. One box works fine with the 1.0.0 community driver on both NICs.

Should it stay or should it go?

PigLover, Thanks for your reply. I was planning on using link aggregation to bond the two on board gig ports, and add a 4 port card to bring it up to 6Gb/s to match the 6Gb/s throughput to each ESXi host. I'll see if I can pull the backplane out and locate a model # on there.

Should it stay or should it go?

Hey all. I picked up a free server that looked promising at first, but I'd like some recommendations on whether I should spend a bit of cash upgrading this rig or let it go and build a new (quieter) system. Case looks like it is a SuperMicro 836 3U with 16 hot swap bays (I couldn't find an...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

What would be the suggested configuration for the pool to handle VMs? I have 12 drives total, so I could create multiple pools and use the raidz1 just for standard file storage and time machine backups.

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

The current system is configured with raidz1 using the 4x1TB sata disks. The two areas where I'm seeing the worst performance are from my vmware lab and TimeMachine backups from 2 Macs. I have a few datastores connecting to the ZFS box using both iSCSI and NFS. The vm's run very slow and...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

I am currently running a home built ZFS server with 4 x 1TB SATA drives and 4GB of RAM using Napp-it 0.9. I was looking to rebuild the box with new hardware to increase performance, and have come across the opportunity to inherit the following hardware: I believe the chassis is a SuperMicro...

    Intel 82579LM and 82579V

I am using a SuperMicro X9SCM-F and I followed the steps below to get the 82579LM NIC to work: 1. Installed ESXi 5.0 U1 ISO. 2. Ran the following commands from SSH while in maintenance mode: esxcli software acceptance set --level=CommunitySupported esxcli software vib install -v...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Just so I'm not leaving you in the dark... I followed the troubleshooting steps on this page: http://constantin.glez.de/blog/2011/01/my-favorite-oracle-solaris-performance-analysis-commands and got the following results: http://pastebin.com/k7jRc0En Thanks again.

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Cap, Sorry for the sloppy wording. I have 2 ESXi 5 U1 hosts which have 2 Intel NICs each. I have created a port channel for each of these hosts connecting to the 3750 switch. The NAS has a single 1Gb Realtec 8111 NIC. I have been through a lot of troubleshooting commands and I'm still...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

I'm more worried about the performance vs space at this time. I moved the VMs to a new ZFS folder which didn't have dedup on and got rid of most of the dedup table. It looks like there is still a little bit left since it shows 1.06x. The performance is actually worse now though. I was...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

i just set all of the zfs folders to not use dedup, but it still looks like it's enabled. Is there something I have to do after turning it off to fully write all of the data across the drives and get rid of the dedup table?

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

It looks like the motherboard I'm running on will only support a max of 16GB of RAM. Would it even be worth it to upgrade the 4 to 16 or would I have to look at a whole new build? Currently I do have dedup turned on for the one datastore I'm using for ESXi. I am seeing a dedup of 1.75x...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

I've been reading through the forums for days, and been picking up a lot of good information. I have just setup a new ESXi 5 box and hooked it up to my existing OI ZFS NAS. I just stood up a few W2k8 VMs and they run sloooowww. From the datastore performance counters in vCenter, it looks like...
