    At this point, maybe, the best solution is to stick with OpenIndiana/OmniOS + napp-it. I'll manage torrent with Transmission even though I've figured out that it isn't as fast as uTorrent.

    I have 2 80GB hdd striped, 4GB RAM, Athlon 64 x2 2GHz... I can copy files from local pc to the nas with ease (50-70MB/s) but when I have to copy the files from the nas to the local pc I get 1 MB/s speeds. PCI Intel Nic, of course it is gigabit.

    I think that mirror and stripe would be faster than raidz2, and would be even easier to handle for the cpu.

    Help me choosing the right OS

    Hi Chandler, I will try OmniOS, I've downloaded OpenIndiana too. At the moment I use the server to download files, then I copy them on my main system's 1TB HDD. If I find the best OS, maybe I'll use the server to store, download and share data...in that case I'll of course upgrade the disks.
