    Worse comes to worst without the lifetime warranty they will cover it for two years from date of manufacture, I had a XFX 4890 that a bought used and I could never get the registration number from the guy I bought it from so XFX said they would cover it under the two year warranty.

    Crosshairs if you read my post I told him exactly that, to put the thermal pad back on the small chip he removed it from because of the gap, my comment on tx-2 was on the GPU chip itself.     You can try to use a q-tip with iso alcohol or denatured, once you do get it off I would put the stock thermal pad back on, they are thick for a reason as it is required because most ram/vrm/ etc. coolers have a gap between them and the chips that any kind of thermal paste cannot bridge.     One thing you can do which is what I did with my 4890 and mcw60, is to take apart the stock heatsink on the 5850, take out the heatpipes and gpu plate and take the shroud off and just use the metal cover with your mcw55. I'm not sure the 5850 will come apart the same as my 4890 stock cooler did...
