I recall reading at one point earlier this year that [H] testers were hoping to obtain software that could be used to subjectively test "smoothness." I'm guessing either it's still in the works or that it turned out not to be feasible for whatever reason.
I never played the first one, but I enjoyed the second one. Even with the flaws, I found it entertaining, and I look forward to the third one (after it's being sold at a nice discount).
A minor edit point - on tab 4 in the "AMD Radeon HD 7950 vs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 vs AMD Radeon HD 7870" section, the first sentence immediately following the first graph begins with:
