Using Microsoft's "out-of-the-box" drivers on a legacy chipset? Performance?

Hello! If I install Windows 8 on computer who's motherboard chipset has been in legacy status since 2010, how would Microsoft's generic out-of-the-box drivers affect performance? How good are Microsoft's generic drivers? (Not just those in W8.) Can some of you share your experiences...

A complexicated contemplation on how PCIe SSD's handle TRIM on old OS's:

I really have, but that doesn't tell me how TRIM works on these drives. If I were to upgrade (and I'd only upgrade to 8), it would bring another concern into the picture. The nForce 780A SLI chipset I use has been in legacy status since 2010, I'll need to use Microsoft's included chipset drivers...

A complexicated contemplation on how PCIe SSD's handle TRIM on old OS's:

For a person running a Vista 64 OS, would a PCIe SSD, if plugged into a PCIe 2.0 slot, have it's own "integrated" garbage cleanup outside of the OS? I'm assuming that since these devices seem to have their own self-managed RAID configuration, and management on these drives seems more "OS...

Pics of my melted 12v cpu connector; cannot find atx replacement anywhere! Halp!

Thanks for showing interest in this thread. :) I actually plan to leave the computer this way for as long as it runs. The only way i'd upgrade to Bulldozer is if I build another computer, and leave this one as-is. If these ATX connectors do fail, then I will probably upgrade to a AM3+ AMD 900...

Pics of my melted 12v cpu connector; cannot find atx replacement anywhere! Halp!

Thanks for your reply. Do you think that using butt connectors might increase resistance, or even lower the maximum available amps going through the cable? Again, thanks!

Pics of my melted 12v cpu connector; cannot find atx replacement anywhere! Halp!

Here's an update on what I did: I cleaned out the female connector on the motherboard's side by scraping it out with a thin hobby-knife. I then scrubbed the connectors as best as I could with sandpaper. I replaced the male connector from the power supply's side. I used crimp-connects to...

Pics of my melted 12v cpu connector; cannot find atx replacement anywhere! Halp!

I melted my 12V ATX connector for the CPU yesterday. The computer had been running fine, then bean smelling really badly. Once I turned the PC off, I looked to see that the connector was fried! Not only that, but the male connector (from the PSU) had melted into the female connector on the...
