There were quite a number of posts in this very thread clearly stating that bifurcation support must be present on both the chipset and in the BIOS to work, so I have a hard time believing ASUS made a bifurcation board that "just works" without something akin to a PLX chip, and working on boards...
This is on hold. I designed a (non-routed) PCB layout, but I reckon it will fall flat on its face if it uses flexible printed circuit to link the slot to the additional PCB, mostly due to electromagnetic noise. PCIe 3.0 8x bandwidth just won't be possible.

Look through pages between 8 and now (IIRC), there's a dual-R9 Nano system in a Dan A4. He used three ribbon cables with an off-the-shelf bifurcation riser from supermicro. You may need shorter ribbons to adapt it though.
Went through the Asus ROG Z370i and X370i manuals, no mention of PCIe bifurcation support. Sent a tweet at @ASUSROG to ask for bifurcation support, wait'n'see.
Unfortunately, finding mobos that support bifurcation with publicly available knowledge is not an easy task, since even when shuffling through several user manuals, there aren't many that specifically include PCIe bifurcation configuration / riser card support in the BIOS/UEFI description...
I was reconsidering using flex pcb on the common signals. The problem at hand would be that each pad of contact being connected to the fpcb, the connection quality would suffer. What if a cut was made between each pad, allowing each pin to press its pad against the pad on the card?
