That cooler looks good but I am skiddish about installing the Zalman since I don't want to remove the motherboard from the case to install. I am a beginner at computer installation (I can add and remove hard drives, video cards, etc) but taking everything apart is too much. Are there any...
I was under the impression that the intel extreme heatsink/fan combo was pretty good. But when I set the core voltage to 1.32, the clocks to 400mhz and the multiplier to 9, my idle temperature is about 57C. And when I rune Prime95, I get up to over 90C. How much will a cooler help me? Could...
I've read a few posts that state a QX9650 with the stock intel heatsink/fan combo (because the extreme versions are more robust) can overclock to 4.0 ghz without additional cooling. Can I have some tips on how to do this? At stock levels I have the FSB set to 333 and the multiplier set to 9...
Thanks for the advice. I am new to overclocking CPU's but I have read that the QX9650 is easy to overclock. Can I do it with stock cooling (I see there is a heatsink & fan combo on the core 2 quad extreme CPU) or do I have to add a cooling solution? Can you suggest the simplest one for this...
Just as an update, I do a few hundred points better under Windows XP. I have a feeling the low score is because I am not overclocking my CPU. Seems like people that overclock in the 3.4-4.0 ghz range fare much better under 3dmark06.
I just installed the eVGA 580 GTX into my system. A few days ago I changed over to a dual boot setup with Windows 7 64bit and Windows XP. To test and compare performance I first looked at the 3dmark Vantage results posted at http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1461/12/ I achieved comparable...
What are the games currently released that would show off the graphics power of a dx11 graphics card? I'm buying a new card soon and would like to know what games to get at the start. I thought Starcraft 2 was dx11 but sadly it isn't.
I think I am going to pickup a Corsair 850HX after reading the comments here and my own investigation. It may be a little overkill for my current system but I'll salvage it for use in a new build later when I decide to go for it. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for all the advice. Will that corsair 650 handle any single gpu thrown at it or is it worth getting the 750 watt model just in case? Thinking if I wind up eventually with a 480 gtx or 580 gtx in the future to be on the safe side.
I'm running at 1920x1200 resolution. I did briefly get a AMD 6850 to try out but I ran into some problems with the drivers on my system as well as a port problem (promptly returned it). I'm running the nVidia card fine with the latest drivers so I think I'll stick with the brand. I just...
I'm looking to beef up the graphics power of my system. I have:
QX9650 3.0 ghz core 2 quad cpu
Asus P5E motherboard
eVGA 8800 GTS 512MB
2 hard drives 1 WD 750GB and 1 WD 2 TB.
450 Watt power supply. Have to look up the make (edit: found it Nspire NSP-450P4LF12)
For the...
I've never built a custom built computer before from scratch but I have added hard drives and DVD-ROM drives and RAM to existing configurations. I have only a 450 Watt power supply and would like to replace it with something more powerful. Is it very difficult to replace it? I am assuming I...
I have the same problem and someone else posted about it also. It doesn't seem to detect the second display if you are using a DVI->VGA adapter. Haven't heard of a solution besides not using the adapter.
