I'm in the same situation. I've decided to wait. DX10 cards will be out sometime by the end of the year hopefully. I plan on getting Vista, so I dont want to have to upgrade for another $1k 8 months from now again just to get all the goodies DX10 brings with it.
It would make sense to release the DX10 cards as soon as they could. If Microsoft wants people to all use DX10, then the hardware needs to be in the hands of people before Vista is released, not after. This will also help push devs to use all the crazy new DX10 features for their games, as well...

Great article. I was going to drop a few grand on a new gaming system yesterday but I got side tracked. I tend to upgrade my system and graphics every 2-3 years, so I would have been really ticked this time next year.
