    Updated Questions on probably dead hdd. More advice?

    With the hard drive attached as it normally was, what was the farthest that was displayed? Was there any mention of Windows, any logos, or anything? If you have your HDD activity LED hooked up, is that active at all while it's trying to boot?

    I'm certainly not the most knowledgeable on the subject, but a similar situation happened to me probably two years ago, and it ended up that a hard power down damaged one of the files crucial to XP booting up. I had to reinstall XP and got everything working with nothing lost save for 8 hours...
