I played with a 2TB work around many years ago.
It works fine until you need to reinstall WHS.
On a server reinstall WHS can locate and install existing storage drives, the version of the work around I tried broke this ability.
It might be time to leave WHS v1 behind if you want to use...
Looking to buy a host bus adapter.
narrowed down to the LSI 9300-8i or the Adaptec 7805H
the LSI is the front runner at the moment
LSI 9300-8i
Adaptec 7805H
I don't "need" miniSAS or 12Gb/s, but miniSAS seems neater and "future proof".
Any recommendations?
LSI or Adaptec?
Thanks.
I believe you could use a >2TB drive in WHSv1, but the drive will be limited in available capacity.
that said, I have a five drive raid 6 array in my WHSv1 box. however, the array is not added to WHS
this is the console just after adding the raid 6 array to the box
Whs v1 won't natively recognise anything greater than 2TB.
There was a work around discussed a long time ago.
There was a limitation of the work around, but damned if i can remember it.
just received a Seagate 4TB
tested in two computers neither of which detect it
newest of the two computers has a supermicro C7SIM-Q mobo, do I need a more recent motherboard to use a 4TB drive?
incidentally, the drive failed seatools
yup, may it rest in peace
heck, even my server has changed significantly since its entry in the thread
nice though that the thread was remembered, must have been some use at the time.
For me, little hassle.
Logon to server console and identify failed drive
Shut down server and remove failed drive
Remove failed drive from its caddy and replace with a fresh drive (i have spares)
Replace new drive
Reboot server
Start rebuild
Send failed drive back to seagate
