An NCIX employee claims on their forum that the panel manufacturer, AU Optronics, has stopped making the panel that Benq was using. Why AUO has (apparently) discontinued it is unknown.
The only ones I know of with comparable specs (I make no claims about quality) are the Samsung 245T and the Hyundai W241D -- PVA / MVA panels with DVI + HDMI. 1:1 for either of these is anyone's guess, and I'm not sure if the Hyundai even exists yet. Benq has a new 24" on the way (March?), but...
Yes, in North America the overscan option did not appear until the Sept 07 build. Hope you manage to lay your hands on one...it seems they are becoming quite scarce.
As I recall, europe got the overscan fix before Sept 07, but I can't remember if it was the April or June build. Search this thread, the answer is in here someplace...
You can receive your replacement before you send back the existing one, and if the replacement is worse, you can just keep the one you have (probably need to call ncix to tell them you're returning the "new" one). My first one had a shiny green stuck pix that you could see from a distance. So I...
Thanks to all who have contributed so helpfully to this thread. I am in the US and purchased from NCIX in mid december, shortly after they got it back in stock with supposedly the “last” North American batch. I got a Sept 2007 build, with the overscan option. I am a happy customer...
Call them by phone--I discovered their online system isn't really set up to handle what you want to do, and there aren't really any instructions. When you get a live person, they will place another order for you and charge you, but they will set it up so that when they get the return from you...
Hey Mike, I hope you're enjoying your new toy. Would you be kind enough to confirm a few things for us: you're in the states, just purchased from NCIX, got a Sept 2007 build, and you've got the "overscan" item in your menu with on/off options? Thanks!
Did the rep say they could guarantee that the box they ship you will be Sept 07? They obviously have them in stock, but there could be older ones mixed in too.
The 245T has finally appeared on Samsung's US website...with absolutely no mention of overscan or 1:1 in any of the documentation. The manual helpfully suggests that "16:9" and "wide" are the choices for HDMI input scaling. Oh well. Maybe someday a marketing genius will discover that manuals can...
Too bad you can't fix the thread title.
I managed to unzip the W241D user manual and found this info on the display modes:
DISPLAY CONTROL
If you choose DISP. CONTROL on the OSD menu, you can adjust the following
PC
Full (16:10) : Shows full screen regardless of screen size...
It's not clear if this thing can do 1:1 over HDMI. The resolution choices for HDMI listed in the manual are "16:9", "4:3", and "wide" (whatever that means). I can't find any information about overscan (samsung TVs have a "just scan" option which I think means 1:1, but I can't find anything like...
