Thanks for your output.
The thing is, right now I am running a tight budget and replacing the mobo will probably means changing also the CPU ( currently Socket 754), RAM (currently DDR ram) and the video card (currently AGP) since most mobo are DDR2 or DDR3 and PCI-E. (I know i can find a...
UPDATE:
The HTPC seems to be working again.
I was able to post it with one stick of RAM, the AGP card and two different PSUs : a 300w FSP and the 380w Antec that was in the HTPC.
The rest of the hardware seems to be working fine (RAM and AGP) in an other computer.
... now, it seems to work...
Hi all,
I am again seeking for you sound advice.
I have a small, not very fancy HTPC running in my living room. Lately, the computer has been freezing alot (about twice a day, randomly, no matter what load) and a few days ago, I started to have problems rebooting the computer. It wouldn't...
I remember that. Shelling out 600$ CAD to play Far Cry because I was disappointed by my 9800 PRO at the time. When I sold this system, I decided to switch the AIW 9800 PRO I had in my HTPC in favor of the x850xt. Then, I was not into Windows Media Center and recording TV on the computer.
but...
It was a leftover from an old system.
But, please explain why it is the worst AGP card for NOT gaming... I know I am not using its full potential... but if I don't have to spend on an other card, it'd be happier.
... oh... and I still have a good ol' SD TV... no HDTV yet.
or do you think a...
Hi all,
I currently have a HTPC running a x850XT AGP in an Antec NSK2400 case.
The case is mATX so the board only have 2 PCI and 1 AGP. Right now, I only have one PCI slot used and the one near the AGP slot is blocked by the x850 fan.
I will soon add an a PCI capture card to the HTPC, but...
Thanks for the RAM link. Couldn't find any decent DDR3 for less than 100$ CAD.
My budget is about 400-500$ and that includes a 125$ CAD case. (In-Win Allure). I wanted to go with a Asus mATX w/300w like this one :
...but the GF doesn't really like... or actually... she wants a pink one...
I did a bit of research since I started that thread and indeed... AMD now sounds like a more logic solution. I am looking toward the 785G chipset and really like the choice.
As for the hardware I may reuse :
- DVD-RW (IDE)
- HDD (200 GB SATA)
- ATI x300 SE
... but I think the ATI HD4200 IGP...
Hi,
I am currently trying to build a PC for my girlfriend for Xmas (how sweet and geeky).
Her main purpose will be work (she is a translator so - Office stuff, VPN, web surfing, music) I know she doesn't need something big. But she currently owns a Dell Dimension 4700 (P4 3.2ghz 1Gb RAM I...
Cost most probably.
A few years ago, Panasonic did the same thing with one of their dvd player. Can't remember the model number, but it had a Faroudja chipset and no chroma bug DVD RP-82 if I remember correctly). Was retailed around 400$ CAD (which was a tad more expensive than your normal...
Right now... no. I don't have the money :)
And I think I will probably upgrade my system to 8Gb before buying the card.
But going crossfire is in my near future plan. Someone told me to wait in September... I think AMD will come out with something new and prices will drop.
My other...
