    Silverstone ST1500-GS 4-pin connector

I want to use this PSU with the small form factor cable kit, as the supplied ATX ribbon cable is way too long and bulky. However, there's a 4-pin proprietary connector on the stock cable that plugs into the PSU. You can see the connector on the PSU to the right of the label here...

Areca SAS expander on 1880 bricked

Thanks for the response. I emailed them and they said it has to go in for repairs. It's out of warranty though, I don't know if anyone will bother to fix it. They asked for the serial number in order to determine the distributor, so not all hope is lost, yet. I wanted to upgrade the expander...

    U.2 over SFF-8644?

They have those; I can't post links but google "pcie expander chassis". They come with a host card, an expansion card in the chassis, and usually two SAS-like cables for connectivity. It's pretty expensive though. I don't think what you describe above would work for more than a single card.

It might. I don't know if the latency and signal strength loss added by the cable can be an issue - SAS accounts for these, PCIe probably doesn't. Do you have any particular application in mind?

Areca SAS expander on 1880 bricked

I updated the SAS expander firmware on my ARC-1880ix via the serial interface and something went very wrong. The RAID controller itself is fine, but the SAS expander seems bricked so the card doesn't see any drives. I may have uploaded the wrong firmware. Areca's website has a "8026.zip" file...
