Bios 202 has a problem compared to 104 and 201, it appears to limit CPU to 85W instead of 95W. I found if I unlocked the "current limit" setting with AMIBCP, and increased it, that problem went away. After I did that my 2700k boosted back up to 4.4-4.6GHz range under Prime95 load on 202 with...
I tested 202 bios on my machine. Still some anomalies, but this one looks like a keeper compared to very flaky/buggy 105 and 201 :
1) It now boots SeaTools DOS disk without a problem, keyboard/mouse don't freeze. I also didn't notice any freezes while in BIOS.
2) The XMP function...
Thanks, that worked. I couldn't use 105 since it wound up the fan to full speed when CPU temp went above 70C, went back to 104 for the moment, I'll wait for a more stable release with official XMP support though the bios mod seemed to work well.
I got my cables and antenna from wifi_expert on Ebay, I got 12" cable length. I am using the Intel Ultimate N 633 mini-PCI express card with 3 antennas.

That answers the question... it is definately not something unique about 2700k vs 2600k with the 201 bios. I tried to revert to 104 but it came up with a message "bios write locked" when I tried to flash it. My setup did not throttle with that version. Hopefully Shuttle will allow...
Tried setting power limit 1 and 2 failsafe and optimized to 1000 along with IA current limit at 1250 but it throttles just like before in both Win7 and Linux, down to about 4.2 on prime95. Temps are not a problem, low 70s, I have the Asetek water cooler (lapped HS to mirror, Diamond ICE thermal...
I think the problem is related to the Power 1 and Power 2 limit values, in the new BIOS I believe these are the long term and short term power limits. The new 201 bios limits Power 1 to a range of 380 to 760 (1/8 watt) -> 47.5W to 95W which I theorize is long-term power limit, and Power 2 to a...
No dice on upping IA current limit in Bios 201 to 1250 with my 2700k... some governor appears to be kicking in and limiting it to 4.2 to 4.4 on Prime95 and 3.6 to 3.8 on Linpack, power draw is kept somewhere in the regime of 95W by the governor. Not that such a stress load is that important for...
I modded the IA current limit but only to 1000.... I will try boosting it to 1250 and see what happens. The numbers don't add up power wise... 1250 would be 156 amps at say 1.35V or 210W TDP. The TDP shouldn't rise that much going from 3.5GHz to to 4.6GHz, direct scale on 95W gives 125W...
I couldnt find the short/long term TDP settings in the new bios. But even with the modded 104 bios my 2700k would back off clock under Prime95 when I had bumped to the TDP settings as recommended by Simon. I'm starting to wonder if there was a change made to 2700k vs 2600k as I noticed you...
My experience with modding the 201 bios so far :
The RAM presets work for G.skill Ares 32Gb 1866, all 32G runs 1866 with
stock voltage (1.5) :)
Manually configuring RAM was a near disaster... next click up was 2133 which
I thought I would experiment with, box did not...
