Minor update. Got two ARC-1260, upgraded to latest 1.49 and it works with 4 Tb drives in JBOD perfectly.
Looks like it pass all necessary things to the host as well. Not yet tested the standby function - should it be taken care by OS or controller may manipulate it additionally.
Deciding on buying the Supermicro 16 bay case with dual E5345 xeons and ARC-1260.
Seached the thread but not found an answer. Perhaps somone take some time to respond:
1) Is ARC-1260 having HBA mode? E.g. the ability to work with drives "as is" without need to reformat the drive when...
If SATA connector would get real 3.3V it may work even without USB part.
Anyway, it looks so-so - if it could be ~$5 it is the deal :) Otherwise you better to feed the board from ATX connector like I did (search mine posts).
Just a quick update. Got mine new LSI SAS2008 card (9200-8e) from AliExpress. It costs ~$165 (with EMS delivery) and works perfectly with HP SAS Expander plus do support 3 Tb drives (unlike mine older 1068E).
First of all, make sure you read the following Wikipedia articles (for ATX and PCI-E pinouts):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX#Power_supply
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#Pinout
Now you ready to understand how power would flow from ATX to PCI-E connector.
What you need to have?

Well, I shortly would take over mine Russian notes (yes, I'm not an English-man) and would attach a photo (pretty ugly, but do not afraid ;) ) for people to understand what exactly are to be done.
Note sure you understood it correctly. I'm bulding custom case with:
1) PSU
2) HP SAS Expander
3) 32 HDD
E.g. it would have drives, expander plus power unit and connect to external LSI card via 8088-8088 cable.
gigatexal, it is impossible to get anything affordable in mine place. While in...
FINALLY! I have done the ATX -> PCI-E power connector ;)
It took me months to understand what is required and how to perform this, very simple in fact, thing.
I have bought regular PCI-E 1x -> 16x raiser (costs ~$3-5 depending on the place you are getting it from), simple 10 kOhm resistor plus...
They are too expensive, especially for untested things.
Have anyone tried to master the SATA->PCI-E adapter/converter? Why we may need the 10k resistor?.. I have tried to find out the reference PCI-E PCB and failed... I believe that we get simple and cheap solution, don't we?
I also heard we...
I seen it, no valid guide there. I know that HP expander requires power only, but HOW to provide that power, that's question.
In that thread I additionally seen that "As a minimum you will need to add a 10kOhm pull-up resistor on A11 PWRGD (Power Good) signal to +3.3V! " but no one neither...
Have anyone made SATA Power -> PCI-E 1x/4x connector finally?
I would love to do single line connector from modular PSU (or via SATA power cable which is going straight from the PSU) directly to PCI-E connector but I still not sure how to proceed.
From what I seen at...

From what I seen at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#Pinout I need to provide +12V to pins 1 &2 on...
