Bumping & update:
Upgraded to Vista. Same issue with driver / catalyst simply not finding the display over hdmi or dvi. At this point I have to assume the Diamond card and its driver set is simply defective. What's bogus is the video out on hdmi and dvi both work _before_ windows loads...
Smoking hot deal. I picked up my Panny 42" for $1499 3 months ago and it was a good deal then. THIS is amazing.
A word about image retention and burn-in:
Image retention can be called "temporary burn-in". It's ugly, it's distracting unless you're watching moving images, and I dislike...
Requirements:
-rackmountable or AV cabinet mountable
-8+ drive capacity
-fast enough to stream say 40mbit/s over network (1080p a/v editing)
-hotswappable, or if not hotswap, I'd atleast like to be able to swap out HDs without opening up the case.
-CHEAP
-quiet
Any suggestions...
Ok so this one's a little bit of a mystery.
I bought a Diamond 2600XT at a Frys. What's funny is Diamond's website doesn't list any 2600XT products (weird, huh?). The card itself has 4 outputs: DVI, hdmi, VGA, + a 2nd pci slot daughterboard with svideo/component out (attached via cable to...
Some rebuttal and other thoughts:
-going with a significantly slower cpu: I've only seen testing benchmarks of cyberlink's hardware assist with recent CPUs playing HD-DVDs and/or Blu-ray discs. I've seen the compatibility list on cyberlink's website, but I'd like some headroom for future...
Good advice all-round.
slightly lower cpu makes sense, but E6600s are more expensive than 6750's, due to their OC popularity. External server makes sense, but I don't have the space for one (small apartment, no desire to run lan cable). Passive vidcard makes sense as well, but lack of space...
I'm looking for comments & money-saving advice on my proposed HTPC build. Once I finalize the hardware selection I'll be ordering it at the end of the month.
Silverstone SST-LC16B-M $269
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L $99
POWERCOLOR 26XT512M/D3HDMI Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB $129

The Dell 2005FPW monitor has been sitting at 450-550 USD for the last 3 weeks on dell.com, but at dell.ca, it hit the $600CDN price just *once* about 3 weeks ago and we've only had a 10% coupon once since then.
Please post Canadian deals here? I'm sure there are other canucks here who lust...
Oops yeah it's an adaptec card sorry.
Yeah I wouldn't have put the windows install on the array either but I was told to so no dice. I just found it kind of funny, xbit labs did a writeup on the card and it seemed to just scream speed.
Oh and booting from software RAID1 shouldn't be too...
Build following system at work (I'm a junior SA on co-op placement):
Dell Precision 410
-Pentium 2, 256MB RAM, 10/100 onboard NIC
-4x Maxtor Maxline 250GB SATA 7200RPM drives
-Promise 2410SA sata-raid controller
Built the array as RAID5, 64kb cluster size, using all 4 disks. Made a...
