    Not sure if anyone will read this but I wanted to update this: I believe I found the culprit. I first tore down the entire board including the new cooler and flipped the board around to check for burned area's (including PSU connectors). I did not see anything, but was able to smell the board...

    How do you check your temps? I don't see them listed in programs like CPUID. I don't think the heat pipe runs to the VRMs? It looks like it has it's own separate sink, unless I am totally wrong on where they are located. EDIT: Never mind I looked it up you are right, but there seem to be two...

    So underneath the sink is a thermal pad and not paste? Can you replace the pad with paste? I of course don't have any pads that I could swap out. =/

    I switched from a i7920 to a Xeon X5650 yesterday. I wanted to overclock so it was suggested that the Xeon would be a better choice. Considering they are pretty cheap I picked one up. However after swapping it out and putting a new cooler on it started to put out a very strong burning smell...
