    It sounds like your situation isn't too bad then. When testing my card, I maxed out the power slider, and it didn't make any difference. Also, the temps weren't unreasonably high when my driver crashed while running Heaven, so I doubt a different fan profile would have made a difference...

    I just installed the heaven benchmark, used the settings I posted, and let it run for a (short) while. If it runs 10 or so loops without getting excessively hot at stock speeds, crashing, or artifacting, I think you should be OK.

    And the fan wasn't high or anything during the tearing events, so I doubt the temp was high. Card's already out and back in its box, so I'd rather not reinstall it to check at this point. No tearing with the 4870 (as expected).
