    Rate my Build!

Do you need any new optical drives, or will you be re-using your current one(s)?

    Rate my Build!

I know the WD6400AAKS is usually the recommended drive... does anyone have any reason to recommend that one over the WD6401AALS above?

Ever fried hardware from static electricity?

I fried an old processor once... I can't remember what the occasion was, but for some reason I took the whole (working) machine apart, and when I put it back together it didn't work anymore. It was a while ago so I don't remember the specifics, but I think it was the processor. I had just...

Thinking of building a new rig...

I'll post pics of the build in a new thread, and link to this one for reference. :) I have the pics on my camera, haven't downloaded them to my computer yet...

Thinking of building a new rig...

Well, got it all up and running. :) Is it normal for a couple of the cores to idle / run a few degrees hotter than the other two? Also, I applied thermal grease by spreading it. Would I get better results with the blob method?

    P45 can't load OS

Just did some more research, and because I have Vista, I'm going to try this method: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 That won't really solve your XP problem though...

    P45 can't load OS

As far as I know (and I could be wrong), this has to do with the Windows installer not recognizing the drive if it's set to AHCI... Try creating a driver disk for AHCI -- your motherboard CD should be able to do this. Then when you install Windows, press F6 right at the beginning when it asks...

Thinking of building a new rig...

LOL... oops. THAT, I didn't realize. Oh well, didn't up the price of the build all that much, so I won't cry about it. :p

Thinking of building a new rig...

I got 5 them because I currently have two SATA drives in external enclosures (which will go into my new box), and I ordered a SATA DVD burner OEM. I figured this way I'll have extra if / when I would like to install a blu-ray drive down the road, and possibly get another hard drive. I like to...

Need a new chair (and desk)

I built myself a desk recently using a solid-core door as the top. That got me an 80" wide desk at whatever height I wanted. 32" deep, which is plenty for my use. Of course, it's 80" wide so I guess that won't fit into your desired location. I have a wireless keyboard / mouse so if I want to...

    Is This A Decent Build?

He wasn't being a dick... you asked for your build to be critiqued, and he critiqued it. I read over his post multiple times and he wasn't a jerk about it at all. He was saying that if you were buying NEW, for comparable prices you could have what he listed. I guess because you had ALREADY...

    Odd uses

What's the budget you're working with... I know you say to keep it low, but a general price range would be helpful. For your use, I would suggest going quad core if you can afford it. I would suggest the Intel q6600. It's $199 at the egg right now. A good place to start might be too look...
