Interesting you mentioned this, as my Dell monitor's power button is green when on and was amber/yellow when my 7800GT enabled computer was in sleep mode. My new 5750 leaves the monitor blank but with a green power button.
If anything I guess I'm curious if the power draw of the monitor is...
I just built a machine with the Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P and despite the set linked above not being on the official approved memory list (off by two digits), I went with them because they were cheaper than the stock 1333 stuff. So far they've been solid even after nearly three hours of memory...
You're not being rude. I nearly went with a 5770, but my entire recent upgrade has been a budget and by going with a dual core, modest mobo and 5750 I've managed to save well over $150, which is plenty nice. I have about seven more months to pay off my lawn tractor at 0%! :)
Regardless of all...
My first pc was a friend-built machine with a Voodoo3 3000 card (played Viper Racing and Quake like nobodies business!). I then bought a machine with a Geforce 2 GTS. My first self-built pc was a Geforce 3 ti200. I then rolled with a 9500 Pro and I have now been running a 7800GT for four...
What is your budget? Is your case a standard mATX case?
I can't make many recommendations other than something with which I am familiar. I JUST installed a Xigmatek HDT-S963 in my rig (~$30 shipped). It's a tad large (like most aftermarket coolers) but it fit into my case without any...
I had my voltage as high as +.05. I think that brought it near 1.4 overall. I'm not sure what vdroop is. I don't have great case cooling right now as I have no case fans. I typically try to limit fans to keep overall noise down, but maybe a couple 120mm low rpm fans wouldn't hurt.
I might...
I was attempting to take a screenie and save it within Photoshop (CS3). After the unlocking to four cores Photoshop now crashes when opening. I tried disabling cool'n'quiet and upping voltage. Neither worked. I even uninstalled the program and reinstalled while the cpu was unlocked. No go...
Because I'm told I'll lose temp readings with an unlock. I decided to run some Prime95 briefly to get some "before" temps. I ran it with the stock HSF and after about eight minutes I had a cpu temp of 57ºC. I swapped out the HSF with the new one. One shitty side note: My tube of AS3 ran dry...
