SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

ZombiPL Thanks for the great news

Do you think it will possible to increase the number of the wifi antenna holes to work as a venting for the case, some users are removing the I/O shield for better cooling results but what if sentry already has the necessary vents !

At this point we won't be making any changes to metal part designs because we had to close them already before getting into campaign. There is enough venting area on the side and over the motherboard and adding six more holes won't make a significant difference.

Adding more holes might also influence rigidity of this area and we don't want to ship the case with such change that wasn't really tested. Note the fact that I have used my current prototype for almost a year now and I'm travelling with it every second weekend which is a good test for endurance of our product. Even if it is a small change for structural rigidity it wasn't tested extensively like our current design, so we won't be risking such changes after people put their money up front for our case.

We are preparing a bigger update in the middle of this week. For now i can tell you that, thanks to bigger order we could talk with our suppliers to make some additional improvements in some things, like... this will be in the update :) Please be patient.
Wooooooo awesome! Glad things are well. X3

Yeah, AMD said in their Ryzen launch presentation that 82 mobos will be available on launch but I've seen only around 20 announced...

Maybe the rest will be out some time later.

Its midweek... Time to wait for announcement which hopefully comes out soon

Rysen I am in the same boat. I wanted a full red system, but with vega not appearing, and the 1080ti looking pretty good....

Yeah, I also want an all red system but there is no AMD gpu that matches the power of 1070.

Are there technical info of Vega out yet? Will it still be on 22nm?

1080ti just landed guys! If AMD doesn't fire back soon I may find out how the Sentry handles a 1080ti! Unless the missus decides my tinkering is out of control

No dvi port equals more breathing room for exhausted heat! Improved vapor chamber! If it really is improved over the 1080/Titan cooler it will be impressive. The same 1080 cooler was used on a 250w tdp Titan after all. So less wattage and better cooler should equal awesome performance.

Let's see if AMD has an answer to Nvidia soon! If they can shake up gpu's like they are doing to Intel's cpu's, 2017 should be a great year for pc enthusiasts, especially those of us lucky enough to receive Sentry! Can't wait to cram ridiculous performance in sentry.

I wanted to get Rysen but I have been waiting to get a new build since November of last year. It's been 4 month and It is time for me to buy so unless a ITX motherboard is released before I receive my 1080ti after I pre-order its going to be an intel build unfortunately. The card will be available March 5 so it should be arriving by March 12 so if there is no motherboard before like March 9. I will be ordering intel i7-7700k or non-k.

Still on my i7 2600, in the same boat of wanting to upgrade. I passed up the Black Friday deals (besides the monitor, 34" 21:9 awesomeness for $440-220=220) on a 6700k, mobo, ram, and m.2 because I didn't know how the 7700k and Ryzen CPUs would be. 7700k was a dud and still waiting for r7 1700x reviews then I'll decide. Can't upgrade until I have all the info.

I heard the card will be available on March 10. Anyways, I also heard that 1080 price will be cut to 500$ after ti launch. Maybe I'll get that instead of 1070.

I'm also eyeing the 1700X but I don't think you could cool a 95W cpu inside Sentry... Maybe getting 1700 non-X and overclocking it slightly until the temps reach 85C will be a better idea..

It would be nice if you could point me to where you got the information that there will be Rysen itx on March 10, because based on what every outlet I have read says they should be coming a month later and there is no manufacturer that has yet announce they will be making one. Bio-star teased that they might be working on one but there was no picture and no ETA. Anyways the MSI z270 is on sale right now and the sale ends in 2 days so I think I will buy that one.

EDIT: After a quick research, yeah apparently the card will be out on March 5.

EDIT2: Actually, March 10 is correct. I feel silly now. :p

The card (1080ti)

http://www.anandtech.com/show/11172/nvidia-unveils-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-next-week-699

And to clairify things, I haven't said anything about AM4 itx mobos...

Quote from the link:

Finally, speaking of pricing, let’s talk about the launch date and availability. Just in time for Pi Day, NVIDIA will be launching the card on the week of March 5th (Update: an exact date has finally been revealed: Friday, March 10th). As for pricing, long-time price watchers may be surprised. NVIDIA will be releasing the card at $699, the old price of the GTX 1080 Founder's Edition (which itself just got a price cut). This does work out to a bit higher than the GTX 980 Ti - it launched at $649 two years ago - but it's more aggressive than I had been expecting given the GTX 1080's launch price last year.

Whoops.

Sorry I didn't understand your comment correctly. I confused what you were saying about the graphic card with the motherboard. Pre-Order for the 1080ti starts tomorrow and I will be pre-ordering because these cards run out fast and the price shoots up.

You said you are going to build soon. Are you building in some other case and when Sentry ships, transfer the parts to Sentry?

Supposedly Biostar has an itx x370 which is exactly what I'd want for the extra pcie lanes for things like M.2 drives. We'll see if the more popular brands do the same.

Is the board announced yet? I just looked in their website and couldn't find one.

I haven't heard much about Biostar. Is it a reputable brand or worth buying?

Their boards are usually not consider high end boards but they are definitely a reputable brand worth buying as long as their stuff is cheap. This is more of an opinion but I wouldn't buy anything high end from them expecting high performance. However, a normal itx x370 board for a reasonable price I would definitely purchase from them.

According to gamers nexus Ryzen 7 is supposed to be shipped with Wraith Stealth 65W and NOT 95W Wraith Spire and XFR units will be shipped with stock coolers in boxes as well, so it looks like 95W Spire Wraith could only be shipped with 1700 pre-orders.

That might actually going to benefit us as we prefer sff coolers. :)
Anyways, do we have dimension specs of the Stealth cooler yet?

Ok guys, I'm back from overseas and am settling in, can't wait do run some more tests on my R15. Will update you all this weekend! Also very excited about the R7 launch, no it's not the best, but damn did intel mess up by giving the AMD marketing team so much ammo to unload! Half the freaking price of a 6900k!

Sadly, Ryzen struggles to reach 4.1GHz whereas 6900k can reach 4.4GHz.

"We were able to get 4.1GHz running as a final clock for all cores but it wasnt our version of 100% stable and the temps were rediculous so we opted to go for a fully stable 4GHz and drop the volts right back down."

If you want the best out of R7 lineup, you don't need 1800X. This reviewer is able to get about 4.1GHz from 1700 non-X, though with a dangerous amount of voltage.

Ryzen has to be kept in perspective. We have to remember where they're coming from. Bulldozer, excavator, and piledriver were trash. Piledriver would heat your whole home and only match i5 performance. And we must also consider performance per dollar compared to Intel. Ryzen is off the charts compared to Intel HEDT. Ryzen is successful at what they set out to do. The bigger question is if OEMs will put ryzen in pc's. It doesn't mean anything if they don't sell. And enthusiasts like us are a small, but high margin, slice of the market. The bulk of buyers buy i3 and i5. We'll have to wait for ryzen 3 and 5 to gage the success of ryzen.

AMD did made a huge huge jump, that is true, but most cpu buyers don't care how well a chip performs better than it's predecessor. All they care is how well it is compared to the competing chip. Which in this case, for pure gaming, 7700k is going to win.

Yes I own another ITX case where I will be putting my build. Since I am packing a lot of power in a very small space I decided that is best that I only use Sentry when I need the portability and use the other case with more airflow when I don't need the portability. It keeps my part safe and also I didn't have to pay for the other case I won it from the giveaway in the SFF Network forums. I recommend you guys checkout the website it has a lot of great content for SFF (ITX) enthusiasts.
