LG V20

new material feels premium

Oh, thank Zorp! I won't have to hear people complain about this!

So much sound and fury signifying nothing in March, just don't buy the G5 full price (which plummeted in the secondary market). Or get a case.

Looks like a solid follow-up to the V10. It doesn't look as cool as the V10 did, but aesthetics are my least concern, right next to camera quality (I rarely take pics on my phone and any phone in the last couple years is more than adequate).

If they put front facing speakers on it, I would consider ditching my 6P for it, as it's missing that IR blaster I've really missed from my M8. Next phone with front facing speakers and an IR blaster will probably get my money.

I'm actually a little surprised they didn't throw front facing speakers on this, what with all the top tier audio processing hardware they put in it.

I've got the V10 and am extremely happy with it. After reviewing the specs for the V20 I am not compelled to get this, unless I'm missing something.

If only lg released this a little sooner... Everyone returning there note 7's would walk out the store with this non explosive device..

I really really like this phone, but it's too big for my taste. If it had a 5" screen with proportional size and same specs I would be all over it. Instead I just hope it does well and then next springs g6 will be a smaller version

This may be my next phone. Will have to wait for it to be available on Verizon. Would be a nice upgrade off of my Galaxy S4.

Yes, I think LG misfired here. They showed some balls by announcing this phone hours before the iPhone7 announcement, and still got quite a bit of press on it. But it seems like it may not actually be fore sale until well after:
1. All of the defective Samsung Notes have been replaced
2. iPhone 7 supply increases
3. Google announces and probably releases their new phones

That's a lot of headwind to go against.

Exactly..

Even now that some replacement note 7's are out.. There is still a major shortage of them. Way more customers are without the replacement then with it.

And the iPhone's are backordered for weeks or more.. if LG had this ready to be sold today then the sales would probably 2 or 3 times that then what it will be releasing it a month from now.

If only LG didn't pull the carrier-specific-SKU idiocy...and Sprint had LG products on their BYOD lists. Bastards.

Figures, the only two phones I have a hankering for I cannot get BYOD.

Pre orders are going up...I like the looks of this....unlocked variant supporting CDMA AND GSM carriers? Hopefully true

Funny that they actually list Carrier IQ right there in the documentation, almost like they're proud of it or something. :p

I am just getting sick of skinned Android phones, I much prefer stock vanilla Android, with no crapware or carrier bloatware. Plus LG's UI is just fugly, and pointless because we already have the beautiful stock Android 7.0 N, just zero reason for skinned UI's now.

All these skinned versions of Android, that Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola make all suck, and just vomit all over the beautiful stock Android OS, and even worse is they copy core Google system apps for no frigging reason whatsoever, if Google makes a stock app like Browser, or Clock, or Calculator, there's no reason Samsung needs to make a their own different version.

I saw that, I did a WTF as well.

Funny...I think stock Nougat UI is ugly with #whiteuimustdie. LG I bakes in OMS (or some theme engine) so you have theming ability at unrooted stock so that you can save your retinas from being burned out by Google's awful blinding whites everywhere.

Speaking just for myself I've always liked LG's UI over the competition, it just seemed to make more sense I suppose (no pun intended for HTC and their shitty UI). Samsung wasn't too bad in my experience of using it over the years but the current one with Android 6 (which is what powers my Galaxy S7 Active) just irks the fuck outta me: the Settings menu is 5 pages that can only be accessed by side swiping - there's no option for a traditional List view at all and I really find that pretty shitty in general.

Touchwiz has some "ok" features - I'm kinda even more pissed that Samsung removed the ability to turn on the flashlight aka "torch" with the Active key (an extra button on the left side that has multiple functions). Yes I can add the Flashlight to the QuickMenu but that still requires me to hit the Power or Home keys to wake the device then swipe down to access the Quick Menu and then tap to enable/disable the flashlight. On previous Active models that functionality was assigned to holding Volume Up for 2 seconds - they added a multifunction button which is fantastic (has 3 options: quick press, double press, long press) but not being able to activate the flashlight with that button is somewhat infuriating considering I can have 3 apps assigned to the 3 functions of the button but not that one actually useful one.

Still I do like this device, it's pretty rock solid so far and has incredible battery life with that 4000 mAh cell in it. I've had over 2 days of battery life with typical usage and ~8 hours of SOT (screen on time) so I'm good to go. If I hadn't watched some TV shows from my Play Store account the other day I'm positive it would have lasted 3 full days without a problem, and that was not even using the power or ultra power saving modes.

If the V20 had reverted the style to using the rear-mounted controls I'd be all over it more than likely, it does have some interesting features per the specs but, since LG went back to being just another cell phone maker with slabs of metal and glass like everyone else there goes that idea. I still want another G4 to be honest - I'm quite disappointed in the image quality of this device (same camera as the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge) so I was expecting something good to great based on reviews. Mine has the Sony image sensor in it and not Samsung's ISOCELL which is reportedly capable of producing sharper images overall - the processing done on the image data after capture is what does most of the damage from what I can tell, but even the RAW captures on this GS7A aren't up to what the G4 did for me when I owned it.

Not sure what the hell worked so right in the G4 with the lenses and the image sensor coupled together but it still produces/produced the best quality captures I've ever been able to muster with a smartphone. I got a chance to play with an iPhone 7 Plus a few days ago and wasn't impressed with the image quality on that either, maybe I'm just too picky or something. :D

BTW kids, B&H photo just posted the unlocked 64GB version being $799.99 pre-order.

yeah the price put me off. I just went and grabbed a used samsung

BestBuy has posted the Spring 997 v20 for....$30USD/month for 24 months....which comes out to $720USD. So who knows what the price is going to be.

Check on Swappa, phone co. employees were getting the G5 cheaper and reselling and they might with the V20. It might take a month.

Sprint and a few others I believe are also doing a $200 rebate if you trade in a handset worth $10+ ....which hopefully makes it more reasonable

i got a 2 day old sprint S7 on swappa for $400 and called it a day. I should use a smaller phone.

that's probably how i got this basically brand new s7 on swappa

Now that the Note 7 is 100% dead this device has a chance for success. However, my LG G4 just failed due to bootloop so I am not ready to trust LG quite so soon. Going to wait 6-12 months to see if the V20 is reliable.

Tmobile says this will be the first phone on LTE Band 66 and AWS-3. I'm getting closer to trying this phone out.
Seems to have all of the latest tech expect waterproof but a removable battery is welcomed.

TMo pricing at $769 before rebates BTW gents ($200 trade in rebate possible). Headphone perk doesn't ship for 6 weeks direct from LG.

Extra battery and charger/dock for said battery is up on AMazon for $50 or $60USD PRime.

For 769 I would say no way... With the 150 dollar earbuds, thats getting better, but still not worth it.. Trading in ANY 4g smartphone to get 200 off making it 569 for what is likely to be the best large phone of the year other then the iphone 7 plus... I would say thats worth it. Even with as fast as the LG's tend to depreciate.

One guy on reddit pre-ordered and had his ship today....delivery by end of week

With payment scheme and rebates...TMo customers could walk in and only pay $100 incl. taxes and fees to get pre-ordered. Hopefully Sprint is the same, as my checking is thin ATM until some backlogged paychecks come in...these $200 rebates and free earbuds seem very limited time like.

it's probably fine. I think they should have had all the buttons on the back with the fingerprint reader so that you don't have to stretch your hand across.

I'll be getting mine on the 29th as soon as my JUMP is ready. Can't wait.

Sprint is allegedly starting pre-orders on Friday....hopefully the ancient Galaxy Note 2 that online they say is worth "up to $10USD" is enough for $200 value....I'd like to keep my Shamu as a wifi-only pocket-tablet.

"Newegg is now taking pre-orders for the LG V20 and throws in some freebies as well, so if you pay $799 you will get the smartphone, the LG G Pad and a battery bank."

Good news for VZW people....you get the cheapest price on the v20 in the USA yet (before rebates)

LG V20 available online at Verizon October 20 at a pretty reasonable price

VZW via AH said:
Starting October 20, the V20 will be sold on Verizon.com for $28 per month on a payment plan, or $672 retail, and even at that considerably more reasonable price Big Red is offering some promotions. It will be available in stores a week later, October 27, a day before its carrier rivals. In Verizon's words:

  • Get a free pair of premium H3 earphones by B&O Play ($149 value) when you purchase a new LG V20 on device payment plan.
  • Starting October 20, if you buy an LG V20 on device payment you can get an LG Stylo 2 V for $1 a month for 24 months on device payment.
