Please for the love of god.....can i go back

We went with IPS 4.x for our forum and it's definitely a lot of work switching away from the mess that is VB. XenForo was a contender but it's reliance on 3rd party plug-ins for things that should be part of it's core design turned me off from it. The new look is good but I also echo the sentiments of the OP that it is difficult to discern the difference between new and old posts despite the "new" tag. I'm sure those kinks will be worked out over time.

New unread posts are BOLD Yellow while already "Read" threads are not bold and a darker color?

Just my $0.02..

Like it however there is a lot of wasted space between posts and within posts. Would love to see a more minimal look.

Grade: 7/10

Ugly and garish. The main thing I liked about the old forum was the clean layout. Now it's big chunks of overbright colors with underaccentuated contrast between text types.

I think the complaint is that the new post flag is all the way to the right, under the post number:

I can understand that; I'd rather have that flag to the left somewhere myself, ideally in the upper left corner in the red bar before the "1 minute ago". The forum view of threads with new posts showing bold is perfectly fine with me; that's much better than it used to be.

I think the issue is now this:

Instead of being able to read the title of the thread and see if it's lengthy or not, you have to read the title then follow the row all the way to the right side of the screen then check how many posts it has. At high resolutions, it becomes tedious and it's possible to lose track of which row goes with which thread.

With the page counts always shown, we can read the thread title and see its length without having to scan the page.

I really do not like how messy it is going to look. Let's let the new format sink in for a bit and if we find enough people cannot adjust, then we will address it.

so this will allow me to make posts gray to dark gray? I can move the new post to the left side? I can turn text to pure white? I can change font and AA?

It will allow you to over ride anything controlled by CSS

:( the old version was so awesomely classic and felt nice and comfortable compared to so many forums that "upgraded" years ago. Not a huge fan of the new version and having trouble articulating why without the previous version right next to me. I feel as if the ratio of thread title text to thread author/date text is way off. Titles need to be noticeably larger relative to the author. The way it is now they really run together and I'm having trouble immediately recognizing or reading the thread titles. IMO stickies need to stand out a lot more too. As it is there is a tiny space separating them and a little pin about a mile away from the title. Larger font/different color/ "Sticky" before title would do wonders

To be fair these are knee-jerk initial reactions. I'm sure I'll get more used to it, but as it stands these things are pretty glaring to me.

One of the major differences apparent to me by the comparison between the previous version and the new one is size and usage of space. It takes 25% more screen realestate to cover the same content. Especially on the category view.

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of this makeover. I understand its not my site and I have no dogs in the fight, but this very much reminds me of the changes that google made to gmail a couple years ago that people were up in arms about. Stylish is great and I hope someone figures out a good CSS set for the forums.

I find the redesign ok.....except for the big empty space between the title block and the forum list, but I think it's going to be addressed. Get over it......we all moved on from XP right? Same thing.

I feel like everything is too "fat" and "bubbly". The red bar at the top of a post is too thick as it is, but it also has a thick border of grey around it. Slim the red bar down ~20%, an reduce the size of the background oval ~20% inward, making a thinner overall border visually. In total it would add 1-2 more posts per page from vertical space savings with no functionality loss for the user. A lot of modern UI's I see with this same issue. So much wasted space, from the multiple layers/elements having set minimal thickness/spacing.
Just my opinion.

At first I was Whoa, big and tricky to read, made my eyes tire easily.
I didnt like the font but it wasnt until I shrunk it down a lot that the benefits came through.
Most of the problems with space and objects being too fat or large are gone.
And its easier to read a smaller size font.
Those struggling with it, go 1 or 2 sizes smaller than you thought and see how you get on.

I can see many aspects have some way to go so I wont repeat them.
Apart from white text could be whiter :)
And it would be nice if the text being typed is the same size as posts already on the page, its a little smaller as I am typing this.

Preliminary thumbs up.

How to get the damned Hover Hound pop-up gone? It is on every friggin screen I open. Not a fan of hoverhound or its huge-ass pop-up.

Guys, the text is as white as it can get. #FFFFFF (R: 0xFF (255), G: 0xFF (255), B: 0xFF (255)). It's honest to God white.

what is 'Select this post' supposed to do other then the obvious?...seems redundant as there's already a separate Edit and Delete option right next to it

Moderators see a lot more actions in there, it's primarily for them

Edit: Updated the userstyle again..
Edit: And again! Have at it!

Apologize if this has already been mentioned. The user name cuts off the forum text on my iPad Air 2. Using the stock browser/zoom. It is such a distraction that I can't even use the site on my iPad.

It's perfect on PC though.

I no longer feel like I'm in an unfamiliar place.
I can hover around stuff and relevant links pop up.
I'm on a top of the line 2GHz T3200 CPU with the Intel GMA 4500(M)(HD) roaring at 88 MHz and the performance is INSANE. Site works smoother than the old one for me.

Noted.

I have to say thanks for working to address concerns. The mobile version is nice and I like conversations vs PMs. Are old PMs gone though?

any way of adding a 'Post Reply' button to the top of each thread?...not the Quick Reply box but just a simple 'Post Reply' button...just makes it easier then having to scroll to the bottom of each thread

One last thought: the current 'hover' pseudoclass for the post tools 'like,quote,report...' changes the font color to red. I'd suggest white. That would be all.

I am not like this layout at all. I cannot tell "read" threads versus "new" threads. Plus it makes my eyes bleed.

I guess for me i always just looked at the date so it is the same for me almost..

Any way to get read/unread functionality back while not logged in? It used to track it via cookies I guess and was very useful. Now it's hard to see what's new if I don't log in and the read font is quite dark and dull. Why not just make the read posts not bold instead of changing the color too?

I'm also no longer receiving emails for my subscriptions/watched threads and can't find the option of immediate or daily mails.

I'm here for the community and the content. It's the same forum just with a different look. I'll just adapt to whatever happens because I learn so much from the [H] members.

OK, I'm back with a little more investigation regarding this. Currently I'm typing this, with the black theme selected, on a 10 in Android tablet while looking at the desktop version of the forum. The white font on the black background is crisp and sharp. Basically the complete opposie of the blurry, hard to read mess on my win10 desktop w/ Firefox. So this makes me wonder, what is different? Could the issue be with Firefox on the desktop and how it renders the font? Or maybe the issue is with Windows 10? whatever it is, might not be a problem with the forum at all, but related to Windows somehow. the difference is huge between the two, the font on the tablet looks completely different. Even zoomed in the font stays sharp. When I tried to zoom in w/ Firefox on my desktop, the sharpness didn't get any better.
