LG G4

Speculations seem to point to a June 2nd launch on T-Mo and June 4th on Verizon.

Supposedly T-Mobile starts selling the G4 today (May 27th) and includes a 128GB microSD while supplies last, sounds like a great deal overall. I really hope to get one of these devices at some point since it offers pretty much everything I want in a smartphone nowadays, especially the removable battery + the microSD expansion.

KnockOn/KnockOff is a big huge thing too once you get acclimated to using it. When I had a G2 earlier this year it was an immediate "Oh man, why doesn't every smartphone do this... why the hell hasn't every smartphone done this for years now?" because it's just that awesome.

My problem with the G4 now is the upcoming LG Nexus 5 (2015). I'm hoping more information about it will leak!

Yeah, I love it on my M8 as well. But it doesn't make much sense on Samsung phones since they have the home button to wake it up easily. That's all I used to wake up my old Note 2 and found it just as convenient.

I never used that feature on my Z2 unless I specifically wanted to show someone the feature. I just really like pushing the power button, especially so since the power button on the Z2 is really nice to push.

Verizon Pre-Order starts May 28th

http://www.verizonwireless.com/news...y-28-and-lg-g-pad-x83-available-same-day.html

So we got all the info, even US Cellular, except for AT&T. Damn them, that's my carrier :)

Also, why is Best Buy pre-order option for AT&T only their Next plan? Why not 2 year?

They can advertise a lower price. Something like $20 per month versus $200-$300 all at once. The Next plan is actually technically cheaper if you price it all out, although it can be quite close.

Not bad:

In addition, for a limited time, LG is offering a promotion where customers who purchase a new LG G4 can receive a free 32GB micro SD card, extra battery and battery charging cradle.

I think my new phone will either be this or an S6...

Do we know the specs for sure yet? Sorry if I missed a link above...

Rumors about a second higher spec-ed flagship from LG with Iris scanning is surfacing for this Fall.

Something newer/better/faster is always 4-6-12 months around the corner. I am still rocking a Galaxy S3, and it takes all of my willpower to not throw it against a wall sometimes.

I pre-ordered the black leather variant from AT&T from BB today in-store. I had to put $50 dollars down for the pre-order but they gave it back to me in form of a $50 gift card. I could have sworn if I did the pre-order online then I wouldn't have to put $50 down. Oh well, so basically I bought myself a $50 gift card to BB haha. I guess I will use it on printer ink/paper :)

It's unfortunate BB won't have the phone until June 12th when I could have pre-ordered it from AT&T directly and would get it June 5th, 1 week earlier, and not have to put $50 down, but I guess the upside is I get a $100 gift card from BB, so $150 total in gift cards I can use on crap I don't need.

Do you still get the free 32gb card/battery/battery cradle with it too?

Ordering one of these today from my Verizon corporate rep. Coming off an iPhone 5, I hope I don't regret it.

You won't ^

If you can familiarize Android, you'll have no issues adjusting to the faster phone, bigger screen, better resolution and more :)

Android 5.1 is amazing IMO.

I've owned three Android phones in the past...Droid 2 and Droid Bionic (both sucked). Galaxy S4 was better than both of those but still annoying. LG G4 is ordered and I should have it by Wednesday but still left wondering if I shouldn't have gone with the S6. Too late now.

LG just announced that they will be releasing official bootloader unlocking tools, much like HTC is doing.

Battery life depends a lot on how you use the phone. Since this thing will likely be very similar to the G3 (battery life wise), here's how my G3 looks with how I've used it for the past two days:
http://imgur.com/7IoNQzF,h1JnzTc,ceJkZ4O#0

I've been primarily listening to a lot of online music, checking email, and light surfing. But I've had screen on times longer than that 1.5-2 hours, with battery estimates still well into the 40-60 hour mark. I occasionally watch stuff on the Crunchyroll app while walking, too. I have never really felt a desperate need to recharge it. The phone has always had more than enough capacity for me thus far. Now, if you watch videos, play games, and web browse on the phone as your primary form of entertainment, and you need to do it for like 7-10+ hours straight without stopping... then yeah: This isn't gonna be your phone. Well, it can be if you bring some extra batteries with you.

Which is something I'll note as a positive. My Galaxy S3 was practically useless with its stock battery at some point, but going out and buying an Ankor (sp?) battery for it made it practically better than new. The utility of removable batteries is not to be underestimated, at least if you intend to keep your phone for any sizable portion of time. Considering that subsidized buying plans have gone to hell, and the "Next" plan is also kind of a ripoff, it might be worthwhile to do less frequent upgrades.

Unlocking the Bootloader

We value your opinion. We have heard your opinions from the open developer community. Starting in 2015, LG will allow customers to unlock the bootloader for certain releases of LG smartphones. This will allow you to participate in Android development using LG hardware. Please be advised that this feature is intended for developers only. Therefore, we strongly recommend not to unlock the bootloader unless you fully understand what you are doing.

For normal operation of the device it is NOT necessary to unlock the bootloader!

LG devices have a fully optimized, certified and tested version of Android, and unlocking the bootloader will change the software. Therefore, it is important that you take time to read and that you keep the following in mind before unlocking the bootloader to customize your device.

1. Once your phone is unlocked, it will no longer be covered by LG warranty.
As we cannot guarantee the proper operation of our hardware with custom software, we are not able to maintain the full scope of warranty for your device after you have unlocked the bootloader.
Because of that we have a responsibility to let you know that defects which may result from, or were caused by custom device-software may not be covered by LG warranty.

LG can no longer guarantee the full functionality of your device after you unlock the bootloader. Unlocking your device may cause unexpected side effects that may include but are not limited to the following:

- Your device may stop working.
- Certain features and functionalities may be disabled.
- Your device may become unsafe to the point of causing you harm.
- Your device becomes physically damaged due to overheating.
- The behavior of your device may be altered.
- Some content on your device may no longer be accessible or playable due to invalid DRM keys.
- All your user data, settings, and accounts may disappear. (Therefore, we recommend that you backup all your data).
- Software updates delivered via LG FOTA (Firmware Over the Air) or Web Download services may not work on your device anymore.

LG will not be responsible for the damages caused by any custom software being flashed to your phone.

2. Unlocking the phone will disable certain functions of your phone.
When unlocking the bootloader, the DRM protection of your phone will become untrusted.
Some applications which require DRM protection may not work anymore or block certain functions due to this untrusted DRM.
Common examples are applications which offer download/streaming of paid multimedia content like music and movies.

3. Unlocking the bootloader may make your device become vulnerable.
Using custom ROM may lead to monetary damages due to viruses, malwares, and leakage of personal information from hacking. You will be responsible for all such damages that occur after unlocking the bootloader.

4. Once unlocked, it cannot be undone.
There is no turning back once you have unlocked the bootloader. You will not be able to revert your phone to locked status.

Unlocking the bootloader could cause unexpected side effects. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you do not unlock the bootloader without understanding of all the risks involved. If you still want to unlock the bootloader and understand the potential result of doing it, then we confirm that your device can be unlocked and you should proceed with the following unlocking Instructions:

- For a complete list of supported devices, see ‘Supported Devices’.
- For step by step unlocking instructions, see ‘How to Unlock the Bootloader’.

Supported Devices

The following devices will support unlocking the bootloader:

• G4 (H815) for EU open market

We will add more devices with unlockable bootloaders unlocking permission progressively.

So, anyone have theirs yet? Looking forward to hearing some hands-on reviews from "real people", and not from some major tech website!

Ditto. Because my personal experience with my work G3 differs from most of the reviews.

Yea somehow I don't believe the "battery sucks claims" until I try it myself. Most people will just turn on their phones keep sync on for everything, keep bluetooth, wifi, nfc, gps, feces dna sensor...etc powered on all the time and expect the battery to be a fusion reactor and fuel them for days without draining.

People claim bad battery on the G3. Just getting the occasional text, and push email, I have gotten 11 days of standby out of it (left it on my dresser while I went on vacation).

If the G4's battery is basically the same, then it is a non-issue. Plus, with a removable battery (or spare, like their promotion), you can just throw a bigger one in if you so choose.

Sadly, this will void your warranty completely. HTC will actually be smart and honor the warranty if it's an unrelated issue.

I'm also waiting on hands on user reviews. I have the G2, I purchased it as all the reviews claimed it was the best camera ever... didn't work out that way for me (terrible pictures anytime not directly under the sun & terrible on anything alive)

Got my G4 yesterday, but I'm probably not a great source since I'm coming from a Galaxy S3.

Took a few pictures of my two year old son last night (evening indoors) and wasn't terribly impressed with the auto mode of the camera. Shutter speed is too slow for anything moving (two year old, so...constantly). The auto mode seems to shoot for around 1/30s shutter speed...way too slow for any kind of motion.

Manual settings are nice, but it would be nice if it had some semi-auto modes (even just Shutter priority would be great). I don't want to have to fiddle with everything to take a half decent blur-free indoor shot.

Gonna have to check out some of the third party camera apps.

My LG G4 will be showing up today. Did the T-Mobile thing with it (4 lines/$100, 2.5GB 4G per line). My wife is going the iPhone 6 route, and my kids are acquiring our "old" Nexus 4 phones.

I plan on doing a double-dip with their offers, getting the 128gb SD card from the T-Mobile promo, and then doing the 32gb card/battery/battery cradle from the LG promo. Pretty nice freebies!

Can't wait to see how much of an improvement this will be over my Note 3, especially in the camera/UI department. Ever since my Note 3 has "updated" to 5.0.1, it has had many, many issues. Plus, I think my charging port is on a slow death (can only charge at a certain angle, cannot charge using USB 3.0, and yes, I have done a full cleaning of the charging port and tried various chargers).

I've had my G4 since Wednesday and am sort of lukewarm on it, coming from an iPhone 5 (and my work phone was a Galaxy S4 until February). I'm going to try to get it set up to my liking over the weekend and see if I can warm up to it. If not, I'll look at other options.

Keep in mind that the Verizon version of the G4 does not have Smart Settings or Themes. Was not happy to learn that.
