Edit: Seems hardware related, Sapphire just posted this...

Surprise was an all AMD powered bundle to every member of the audience:

- Sapphire Radeon R9 270X BF4 Edition
- Copy of BF4 + 3 free games from the Never Settle promo
- AMD powered laptop by HP
- $500 Newegg voucher towards the purchase of a PS4/Xbox one/Wii U bundle of their choice

Theif reveal maybe?

He does get a lot of pre-release games.

Well there's a 99.9% chance it's gaming related and not hardware related.
So what AMD-endorsed titles are we waiting for?

Theif, Star Citizen, Dragon Age:Inquision.

oh, oh, oh...maybee freakin Bethesda is gonna annoucnce FO4 with mantle support on the Creation engine!!!!

Looks like hardware or maybe Sapphire is just taking the chance to pimp themselves since they'll be using their hardware.

OP updated

doubtful...

they havent had enough time to do anythign with the steam OS.

AMD is showing itself to the public?!?!? Has hell frozen over? Is it possible AMD might actually have a public presence after years of non-advertising?

Edit: also, the more I see of thief, the less I'm excited for it. It looks like it's approaching 'AVP' levels of 'meh'.

The game looks like it will be a massive train-wreck. Reports of terrible development issues, reports that the game has been restarted a couple times, reports of bad management issues from the top down, making sweeping changes to gameplay mechanics when the game should be content locked and well into QA, the absolute shit "story" trailer from the VGXs, the horrid voice actor for Garrett. About the only decent looking thing in the game is the art style.

They gave away a gaming bundle to the audience. Laptop, BF4, etc.
Looks like there's a graphics card in there too.

wtf are they supposed to do with a graphics card? lol.

Well holy shit, that was pretty awesome. They gave away to every member of the studio audience the following:

- Sapphire Radeon R9 290x BF4 edition
- Copy of BF4
- AMD powered laptop
- $500 voucher towards the purchase of a PS4/Xbox one/Wii U bundle (your choice).

The announcer also mentioned they had a choice of 3 free games which kinda leads me to believe it's the return of Never Settle, will need more details/confirmation on that though.

Well that was disappointing...but at least the audience got something out of it!

290x to the whole audience... How many people there, that's like $50,000 worth of GPU's.
Not counting the laptops.

I didn't know AMD was in a position to make it rain.

hahahaha, what a strange decision. "Here's gaming laptop, plus a video card for a gaming desktop you don't need to build because we just gave you a gaming laptop."

Didn't watch.
So... what was the actual surprise/announcement? Or was the giveaway to the audience the surprise?

I think AMD did wrong myself as we get notting for all the support and backing we have gave buying the 290 cards and not getting the BF 4 with them.

Shit, I wouldn't turn that down. Free stuff bro! Worst case scenario even if you didn't want the card - sell it on ebay to miners. Although I have no idea what the context is here, because I didn't watch the show.

I foresee some super cheap 290's up for sale since 90% of the people in the audience have NO idea what a video card is!

Yeah, I don't get that. Why would they give GPUs away to clueless people who aren't even DIY'ers? That's like me giving a GPU to my Mother, she would have NO IDEA what to do with it.....Seems like a strange way to market the cards...

In the spirit of giving :) you don't always get what you want :)

True that! Like I said, free stuff is always good. I guess AMD is trying to get their name "out there" to the mass market and not just to PC enthusiasts...which is cool I guess.

Why do you assume everyone there has no clue what a vid card is... How do you know no one there is a DIY..how do yo know the mothers there dont have kids asking for this stuff..

You assume a lot knowing nothing about them, when they scanned the audience i could easily point out people who may have a clue about computers, but that is assuming the reaction by some of them.

And now think beyond that,Jimmy has now given away AMD brand, you know how many of those people will run out and only buy AMD stuff now, not only the crowd but people watching TV around the country...

It was a great marketing ploy by AMD.. when have you ever seen NVIDIA product advertised on late night TV on a show with some of the highest ratings..

90% of that audience would not know what a GPU was. They were either excited about the laptop, the words PS4 or Xbox one, or excited about eBaying that crap for their normal Christmas presents.

actually, the donor has to pay it, not the donee.

they take the $600, because they have to file a gift tax return on behalf of the shareholders for any property over $14,000 and pay taxes on it.

$600 for all that loot is still a hell of a deal.

Assuming most of audience is isn't highly computer hardware-literate, they'll fob off the 290x and keep the laptop so uh, expect some cool listings for 290s on Craigslist/Ebay?

While I'm at it, I don't even know why they even bothered with including BF4 in all of this. Yes I know it's part of the bundle, but still.

well its kinda hard not to include bf4 when it come in the box of the gpu. the case for bf4 infront of the 290 was likely just display

advertising....

although im not sure who doesnt already know about bf4
