I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been looking at Computex... and it seems to me that mITX is better than ever!

I think that instead of having a unique thread for each case it might be more productive if we have "one thread to bring them all" :D

Here we go:

BITFENIX

Unknown name (probably based on the prodigy chassis).

Well, first one's name is actually pure speculation ;)

Regarding the mATX... its for the first 3 cases, and I think I included 4 in the topic (yet, I'll try to update it when new decent shots are released).

Hey man, you should re-host these pics somewhere and use a more moderate size (try imgur; the large thumbnail size is what I often use). Also nice to link to the sites where the image is from.

I saw an Arc Mini R2 at TPU. I just bought an Arc Midi R2 two weeks ago, but what I really wanted was an Arc Mini R2. Of course they announce one right after I buy one!

I guess I can take solace in the fact that it will probably take six months for these to starts to show up in the US...

The Bitfenix Prodigy is a full ATX case posing as an ITX case, so those could be anything.

The Phenom M looks ITX. In fact, I think it's just a prodigy without the goofy handles.

Yeah, it looks like the Phenom M sign says it's 250x335x370mm, which is a little bigger than a Prodigy without the handles.

The Colossus M is a bit bigger still, at 250x343x393mm.

The CM Elite 130. Just like the SG05, only meatier. Linus has a good look at it here.

Hmmmm. Very nice. It has a 120 fan -> 120 radiator -> 120 fan that all fits.

Makes me wonder if a thicker rad like a H80i could fit with just fan -> radiator.

Those CM cases are way too big for me. Just not really in the spirit of SFF IMO but I'm for practical sacrifices at least.

The sign for the Elite 130 says it's 240x207x401mm, which is close to 20L.

I'm pretty sure the fans on the side are a triple fan extra long GPU.

yeah, that cm series has always touted itself as holding all full length gfx cards, so i wouldn't be surprised

It also appears that they made it long enough so that they don't have to use a protruding PSU area like in the 120.

All these SFF cases are way too big. 15 liters should be the high end of an itx case. Only reason to go bigger is for mass amounts of storage.

Or for someone wanting to build some over-the-top overclocked liquid-cooled high end gaming rig. Just check out all the BitFenix Prodigy build threads at overclock.net. I swear around 90% of the "SFF" posters there use a Prodigy.

Regarding the Cooler Master Elite 130, about time they went with a mesh face.

In the SFF subforum there, there is a build log of Corsair 350D which is just a normal mid-tower case of 41 liters. I reported it but no reaction.

You can water cool an SG05, SG08 and other legitimately SFF cases. Water cooling isn't a legitimate excuse for making ITX cases obnoxiously large.

There is a difference in watercooling an SG05 and a Prodigy, the Prodigy fits into a niche market of people that like to either slap a H100 on their CPU leaving the GPU on air or for people that go full custom and want 2+ rads - you're not going to put 2+ rads in an SG05-08.

Someone watercool for silence with minimal performance gains - others do it for large performance gains.

It's the size of a micro atx case, so why not just buy a micro atx case to water cool your itx mobo and GPU?

Again, not a good reason to build obnoxiously large ITX cases.

It would be like making a P180, putting an itx mobi in it, and then calling it a SFF ITX case. No it's not!

Maybe some people like the MAC-ish look to the prodigy? Since many people get the white version....

Well that's your opinion and I respect that - I think all the more exposure itx can get the better and perhaps people start out with a prodigy never having heard of itx before and then later move to something even smaller or ask companies like BitFenix to make smaller cases for itx.

I know personally I'd rather have 100k+ people ask for smaller cases than just 100-200 from [H] SFF forum.

well they do frequent these forums, as well as their own official forum. and they listened to the matx request.. although whether it turned out to be what everyone wanted is a different story

Yeah thats usually how it goes in similar circles, everyone wants to stick water cooling into everything. Despite the fact that the most common ones don't really cool better and at the same time louder than a nice heatsink fan combination.

Watercooling for silence? Isn't the pump generally too loud for silent operation? I've never heard of them reaching the noise levels I searched for, which is why I've never pursued it. I get dead silent results with my air cooling setups however.

you can't overlook better air cooling... lots of mitx cases have low clearances, which limit the types of aftermarket cooling that can be used, but the bigger mitx cases like the prodigy will allow for basically full size cooling

A lot of these cases have so much empty space for the potential of water cooling and full-size ODDs (wtf?). I'd rather just get the same thing, but in micro-ATX form because the potential of those extra slots is infinitely more useful...

The problem is usually making GPU's quiet in an itx case. There's almost never enough space for large aftermarket GPU heatsinks and large quiet fans. So the next best thing is water cooling. While yes the pump is hardly "silent", its better than stock GPU coolers.

Yeah I can understand that. Though I think I usually see people water cooling their CPU and not the GPU, where as their GPU is prob more in need of it, in terms of temps and noise.

With CPU, they are increasingly less necessary, even to have a giant HS/F since the push these days is to lower TDP's. So even with lower clearance, you can still do wonders with air cooling. The only times you can't, well in those cases, you prob wouldn't fit even the smallest of water cooling setups.

Back on Topic:
I see some interesting cases from Jonsbo, never heard of them, they look like Lian Li's.

I'm hoping that Streacom are showing a new SFF case at Computex. They mention they are showing a new desktop case on their own website and I've seen a pretty cool looking enclosure (I don't mean the NUC case) of some kind in techpowerup's picture feed, but finding any more information has been impossible so far.

Being a Prodigy owner, I would like to defend the use of it:

1) Ignorance. I was one of the early adopters; I preordered it on day one of availability for preordering. I didn't realize the case is anywhere near this big! I thought that the handle bars are the reason why the dimensions are so big.

2) It can fit everything, I'm still waiting on the day where I'll feel confident enough about attaching H220 to GPU.

3) I wanted the handles for portability. Unfortunately, the handles hurt!

And defending why I choose the white model:

1) Not because it looks like a Mac, I just don't want another black box...

Just saw the colored Prodigy's? Wish there were more colored options among these tiny cases. A lot of them are the same design, you'd think aesthetics would be more of a differentiator. Black, black black cases... boring. The occasional white, silver isn't something we should settle for =p.

I had the Prodigy for awhile. Got tired of how huge it was and how much empty space it had in it. Moved back to the SG05 and I still have my i7-3770, 16GB of RAM, SSDa and GTX680. Good enough for me and something you can actually call Small-Form-Factor.

Wow I'm super excited by the Elite 130. The 120 was a bit off from being an excellent case and it looks like the 130 will fix everything with it. I hope the side panel ventilation was improved too but I guess all will be revealed soon.
