Anyone collect vintage CRT portable TV's ?
I started to collect vintage portable color tv's.
I usually get them for free, rescue from garbage or pay very little for them.

Here's my 1978 Eaton Viking 10" Portable 8761-10C Television a few days ago from the original owner, for FREE !
It is a thing a beauty ! It also comes with original manuals.
I think it is a very rare TV because it was sold by a Canadian Company Eaton's.
It is made in Japan as well.

I suppose my FW900 attached to a Dish 6000 receiver wouldn't have counted...

Just curious, why would you collect them? I could understand if you were playing old school consoles, but most TV's support old resolutions now too.

Just to have. Most have been thrown away/recycled over the passed 30 years or so.
I'm only looking for and collecting 1960's to mid 1980's 13" and smaller color tv's
I wanna try and save some just in case in future people want them to play 8bit or 16bit video games or whatever.
I dont like any newer 1990's or 2000's CRT tube TV's. They weren't as well built as the early ones.

^This.
How many of those era TV's (especially the B&W ones) did you ever hear of dying from arcing?
Yeah some died, burnt out, etc, but some of those things lasted *YEARS*...

TBH, this is off topic for this forum. I think there's another forum for things like TVs' and radios, etc. This is just for computer monitors, I believe.

Just picked up this rare little thing today for free.
The original owner was gonna toss it out in the trash.
Here's my vintage 1979 Panasonic CT-778 Quintrix 2 Portable color tv with 7" screen.

I absolutely love this kind of stuff. Back when companies were much smaller and really built their items with care. Each piece is long forgotten but there was once a time where a group of people sat down to discuss what great new television they would come out with.

These days it's just too commercial and fast paced to own anything and actually appreciate it. There's no respect for the item while it's made and in return I have no respect to give for it. My 50 inch TV? Sure I like it just fine. I could care less if I replaced it though. Where as my 19 inch wooden console television with a yellowish tint on the screen that I purchased from a flea market I absolutely love.

Keep up the collections and thanks for displaying them.

Agree 100%.
Best post since sliced bread came out ! ;)

Cool stuff, reminds me of the TV I had in my room as a kid.

It got me to thinking about a Sony Watchman I saw on kijiji a few weeks back.
Did a quick google search and found out they made more than 65 variations of it.
Pretty interesting but not exactly in the portable TV genre as they are "pocket" TVs.

Found this this Rare 1992 Zenith J0920X Portable Color TV at a garage sale today for $10 bucks.
Works like new. color, Assembled in Mexico. 9" screen
The CRT is made in Japan though.
Good cosmetic shape.
Anyone have more info on these sets ?

Here's one of my favorite vintage small TV sets.
Managed to grab this FREE off someone getting rid of it on craigslist.
I called 2 times, no answer. Called a 3rd time and got a hold of the person.
They said they were going to throw it away for recycling or give it to Goodwill,
but then listed it on craigslist to see if someone wanted it.
Anyways, I went to go see it and to my amazement, the thing is near mint !
It looks like it was hardly used ! The picture on it is still great too !
It was manufactured in Japan May 1976.

Hoard these sets for about 100 years, and these will be lovely antiques like a 1921 Victor Talking Machine.

Picked up this obscure vintage JIL (Jutan International Limited) Concerto model JCTV 1580 13 inch Color TV off of KIJIJI today for free. Works and looks like new.
