Official Deus Ex: Human Revolution thread

If it's actually a corrupt texture, you'll want to verify your game cache on Steam.

just finished verifying the cache...before that I tried switching to DX9 mode (thinking it had something to do with DX11) and still got the crash...I also tried lowering some of the Advanced graphics options but still no go...eventually the crash went away but still pops up in that same area every once in awhile

Just beet this game last night. about 15 hours and I did every side quest I could. I LOVED this game. The ending was Meh but overall it was one of the best RPG's I'v ever played, and I'm not an RPG guy. beet it just in time for Dead island too :D

what are the most important augmentation upgrade for later in the game ?

"most important" is highly subjective as it really depends on your play style and what weapons you're willing to use. None are really "needed" (as in you'll find the game far harder if you don't have any), but which augs you have can dictate the ways you approach a problem, and as you have more augs you can approach problems in different ways.

For boss fights (which you're stuck with as is), EMP resistance and typhoon are by far the most valuable IMO. Cloak, dermal armor and the rebreather can help a bit but honestly just the first two are enough to trivialize the boss fights.

The ending was Meh

I too was disappointed with the ending, I didn't find any of the choices given particularly pleasing. And based on what happens at the very end of the game (after you choose your ending) I believe the "4th ending" is the canon one.

Yeah I went on Youtube and viewed what I missed. but the game makes up for the ending. I want to go back and play it again! But I want to play Dead Island, so I'll come back after that. Or just play the first one :D

Make sure you stay past the end credits. ;)

I picked up Typhoon very late in the game, it had some fun moments. I did not pick up the Chat Aug but wish I had. It was fun to hit a couple of the conversation achievements without it though. I ended the game with either 4 or 6 Praxis points unspent, didn't realize I was that close to the end and earlier in the game I was burned a few times by not having some spare points to use.

I started mostly non lethal and stealth. Midway through I went with a combo of combat and stealth. Later I was more combat.

You realize as you get deeper into the game that there are several ways to handle the mobs and routes, very fun either way you choose.

Which augs to get is pretty subjective. I didn't touch the Typhoon or the Icarus landing system on my first playthrough, but a bunch of people say both are essential.

Typhoon is just for bosses but you can trivialize them other ways, such as the Revolver, mines/nades or simply enough 10mm headshots.

The Icarus Landing System is really not essential at all. Its #1 usage is getting to avoid the dumb ladder climbing screen.

Hacking and hacking stealth are probably the two most useful upgrades in the game. It trivializes the whole thing. The persuasion augment does the same, although it's easier to manage that on your own.

Strength and wall smashing should be one of your first upgrades, simply because it pays for itself. Jumping is useful but not necessary.

If you're going stealth, Cloak is a bit of an overpowered option but you'll need the energy upgrades to go with it. And Dermal/EMP resistance if you're going combat.

The rest are pretty meh. Inventory space is obviously useful, but it's stupid that they made it require skill points. Most of the leg upgrades are fairly useless, as are the breathing things and aim stabilizer. All of the Stealth augments are bad. Seeing through walls is interesting and occasionally useful, but not necessary, even for stealth. The radar is kind of the same way.

As for the game itself, the alternate routes don't have nearly enough variety and it didn't feel like much of a choice was made. Here and there they included some jumping and platforming stuff, but for the most part the alternate route is just dial-a-vent. Doesn't matter how non-sensical it is, if they decided they needed another route they just threw on a poorly hidden vent, and 90% of the vents you find will go somewhere useful.

ok , I got 2 typhoon ammo, and already upgrade to level 2 .
so how do I use or activated during combat ??

Default is one of the f1-f4 keys, you can bind a secondary or rebind them. I put mine as "B" so I can't tell you the default.

gibbed made a debug mode mod...yay!

"Skip intros" is the thing I want the most out of it.
Perfect! Just in time for my second playthrough. This one will be perma-invisible, perma-silent with smart vision on at all times. Nobody will survive. I will let some people live long enough to complete side quests, but everyone else that is killable will die.

This mod lets you get the bonus items from various preorder packages.
Yeah, noticed that. Not pleased that the content is in the game, and I'm just not "authorized" to use it.

Started playing this yesterday and OMG.....soooo nice to see a developer get it (mostly) right. Lives up to the original game so well, so far.

These are the kinds of games I love, why did it only take 10+ years to make something like #1 and System Shock 2?

Funny how the main guy is just a monotone as JC was and the graphics aren't the best, specially some of the people, they look like they were pulled from #1 but I am just amazed.

If only more devs had the balls to make great games and not just shove out crap asap to make $$$s

My only gripes so far is the cover systems makes it WAY to easy and the AI needs some help.

The AI gets better over time in terms of flanking etc, but it is still rather weak. My favorite tactic is to lure a guy into a room off of a major area full of baddies. I Kill him, which causes the others to file into the room, one at a time, just so they can be head-shotted on entry.
=pile-o-bodies!

the GameStop exclusive items are pretty useful in-game...the automatic unlocking device is a huge advantage as it allows you to automatically hack any lock (even ones above your current skill level)...normally you have to upgrade your hacking Aug to be able to hack higher skill systems so this device is very useful

you don't get the unlock device added for free though as you have to buy them from weapons dealers around town (the Remote Detonated Explosive Device is added to your inventory for free)...even so it is worth the 300 credits or so to buy it especially if you're playing as a stealth/hacker character

hopefully the exclusive 'Tong's Rescure' mission is really good as well

Praxis points are easy to come by anyways. I'd rather level up hacking and not support Gamestop.

Yeah, I'm playing a stealth character and i've got 5 unspent praxis points ATM. I'm waiting to see what needs pop up during gameplay. I just got back to Detroit.

On a different note- I'm surprised I haven't heard anyone mentiont his yet:
I couple of times, since I got back to Detroit, I've had mometns where it's like Adem gets a static shock from hell- it's like the same reaction you have to am EMP grenade, but much milder- system don't have to reboot, for one thing. It really caught me off guard the first time it happened. Makes me wonder if he's starting to reject his implants or what...

Part of the storyline. It's going to try and lull you to go into a Limb clinic for a "special fix upgrade." Don't do it.

It's a shame Kieron Gillen doesn't really do game journalism any longer, he really is quite good at it.

Warning, massive spoilers in the article. It actually involves the "glitch" the player above keeps experiencing.

Take a look at this DXHR article he wrote on RPS: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09/06/deus-ex-human-revolution-is-about-drm/

And I'll be honest, I'm not exactly opposed to the concept of DRM. It's just that there are far too many issues with DRM that are completely outside the control of the developer, such as bandwidth caps, unstable infrastructure, potential for the servers being hacked, internet not as widely proliferated as we want to believe, etc. If we could solve those issues, I personally wouldn't mind DRM near as much as I do now. But we're hardly even making any progress towards those goals, we're even going backwards in many cases. So taking that into account, I oppose DRM right now.

Good read. I'm anti-DRM because it doesn't work. It punishes legit end users and the pirates and such do what they want anyways.

An article like that only underscores all of that, and other things, even more.

exactly what i've been doing but they also lack a bunch of other things, specially when you use the cover system, pop up and shoot, kill and hide back down and they just walk over to the dead body and stand there. Rinse and repeat till room is empty

I just started playing but the first two bad guys killed me every time I tried to kill. I can take one out, but three bullets from the second and I'm dead. Maybe I need to wait longer and shoot them in the back.

That's a learning curve; the real problem is the horribad load times. I'm in a tiny fucking corridor fps game, what takes so long? I thought the patch had fixed this, but after the third reloading screen I decided to clear out some other games from my backlog and wait for another patch. If loading is always this slow I don't think I'll be able to finish this game.

Once it was patched my load times are pretty short. Performance went downa little, though.

Is anyone else surprised by the lack of children and animals in this game? That's a big difference from the original; rats were everywhere!
I was also a little disappointed in the fact that there wasn't much resolution to the story line with his ex-girlfriend. I would have expected a bit more than the minor encounter near the end of the game.

I agree, at the beginning the entire point was to get justice for Meagan and crew. A little bit more exposition later in the game would have been appropriate.
However, given the expansion of scope of the story I can see why stopping the "augment plan" took precedence. All the same, the resolution of Meagan's part of the story felt rushed.

I think the cause might be the game type coupled with a relatively inexperienced team. The game actually had to have content cut (despite the delay).

does that mean we got the short version of the story? How would they cut content out of such a story-based rpg without messing up the story?

This happens a lot in RPG's in the last decade, actually. Sometimes quite a bit will hit the cutting room floor once the publishers start shaping a near finished product.

The first enemies you encounter as in when Sarif first comes under attack? Keep in mind you have a Combat Rifle with the laser sight upgrade that makes all bullets land where the laser is pointing...surgical accuracy. Just aim for the heads from behind cover and they go down instantly. If you're trying to play this game like a traditional FPS, you're going to have plenty of trouble down the road. Think of it as a Splinter Cell/Metal Gear game where going toe to toe rarely yields positive results especially on the hardest difficulty.

Also, it sucks to hear people are still suffering from long load times. Since the patch my load times went from 25-30 seconds down to a mere 4-5 seconds. It's so fast I don't get a chance to read any of the summaries!
