Offical Call of Duty Black Ops Thread

loving this game now that lag problems are fixed (for the most part), so far my perk I always take is ghost being invisible on the almost constant spy plane scans is awesome. That and Second chance PRO, Ive killed so many enemies thanks to this and with pro being able to be revived is awesome.
 
when did lag problems get fixed? Was playing today ~ 1-2PM EDT and it was worst than it was last night after it was patched. Did they patch it again today??
 
lol you fellas are just stubborn. I would still be playing Cod2 if I wanted to play this game. Sorry they did not give us a NEW game that works properly. I wish they had b/c bfbc2 is getting old. Good thing they are updating it a bit but bf3 is a loooooong way off still.

My condolences.

I don't actually mind CTF, but I don't like it in CoD games. To me, CTF needs to have an advanced movement component: rocket jumping, strafe jumping and trick jumping. Quake 3 had some badass flag running. In this, you just kind of grab it and run. In Q3 you'd rocket jump up three floors and strafe jump through the map at mach 10 accomplishing a cap in seconds across a map 3 times as big as any map in this game.

I just bit the bullet and ground it out though. It ended up taking me A LOT longer to get the 26 miles sprinted than the first bloods or captures.
 
How do you get the "pro" edition of perks? i haven't unlocked any yet.
 
This just in:

I suck at zombie mode. My buddy and I were trying to make it past the 1st level but we keep getting our asses kicked when we turn the power on. Any tips?
 
Guy's I need an answer quick I'm bout to pull the trigger at steam for this game but I need to know if all the lag, memory leaks and choppyness issues are gone. I hear theres a patch out? I'm going to assume that the game will update itself when your install it through steam?

i was still stuttering in mp after the patch. Read on steam forums someone deleted their mgconfig file and it fixed it for them.

I tried that tonight thinking that would be too easy, but it actually worked. My horrible stutter finally went away.
 
I swear the lag got worse since the last time I played. I can't even strafe now before it gets choppy. This will probably be the last CoD title I buy. Pity it's also the first one I bought from Treyarch.
 
Has anyone else here had issues with BO crashing to desktop very rarely? I had it happen a couple times when accepting a friend invite during a game, and once just randomly in the middle of a match...
 
I don't stutter or lag except for the slow-mo kill cam.. Connections issues have happened once in the 20hrs I have played. Never had a CTD. The only real issues are with the menus and friend systems.

They could make a totally new game with everything everyone could ever want and PC gamers would still complain about it :p.. I guess we are impossible to please?

Either way I am enjoying it and can't wait to see what mods get released.
 
I'll just say that I haven't really had any problems since launch. Runs at over 60fps most of the time (max settings, 4x AA @ 1920x1080). Yeah, maybe it's a bit unoptimized for a COD game but it's far from unplayable...

Only tonight did I experience some stutter and lag. And there seems to be an always persistent stutter/lag in the kill cam shots. So far I am impressed, mostly by the campaign.

Overall I would probably give it a 9.25/10. Not perfect because of an non-innovative multiplayer mode, some bland/unmemorable map design, and technical problems.
 
Server browser is alot better since the patch. The Friends server tab now seems to work.
 
I still can't play at my native screen res without taking a huge fps hit. 1280x800 is the best I can manage with good fps (35-45); at 1920x1200 I only get 17fps; if I lower to 800x600 I can get 75+ though...

SP or MP?

In SP with vsync on, max graphics, even 8x AA with 1680x1050, I am almost constantly at 60 FPS on fraps. Dips to 57 or 58 every now and then. I'm guessing without vync on, it's pulling even faster frames like all COD games in the 80s.
 
If you are having issues with Black Ops, make sure you've done the following in this guide I wrote for my servers. After making these tweaks I'm running max with 40-50 FPS.

1. Make sure that if you are using an on board sound card, like the Realtek on board, to make sure that you are using the latest drivers. Most players (including us) experienced a bug that completely killed sound once we started playing Black Ops and forced us to reboot our PC's to get sound working again.

2. Turn off Anti Aliasing.
3. Set Sync Every Frame to No
4. Set Texture Filtering to Bilinear
5. Turn shadows off if your GPU can't handle it.


6. The following tweaks require that you enable the console function. However for the single player portion there isn't an option to enable the console via the settings in-game, so you will need to enable this by editing your config.cfg (You also can apply this to the config_mp.cfg as well). This is located in your Steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\player folder. Open up that file and locate the following key,
seta monkeytoy "0" and change it to seta monkeytoy "1". For your multi-player portion, you can enable the console in-game and still make the same changes.

Now that has been changed, you can start up the game. To make the changes you will now need to open the console by pressing the "~" key.

"cg_drawfps 1" - This will enable the in-game FPS meter.
"r_multiGpu 1" - If you are running a SLI or Crossfire setup, leave this as it is. However if you are running a single GPU card, you will need to make the change to "r_multiGpu 0".
"r_multithreaded_device 1" - This will enable Black Ops to use all available CPU cores. By default it does not and this hinders performance.
"com_maxfps 0" - This uncaps the maximum FPS allowed. This may be a no-no for online gaming, but so far I haven't had any issues or gotten kicked from any server using this setting.

Making this changes will enhance your Call of Duty: Black Ops experience. Good luck soldiers!
 
Anyone know how to fix the server broswer problem? I can only see ranked servers and even then I can only see about 10-15.

MP, I've tried all the tweeks and nothing helps except lowering my screen resolution :(

I have a Q6600 (2.4ghz), 8gb ram, Nvidia GeForce GT 220 running on Windows 7 Pro...maybe its time to upgrade

Are you kidding? You expect playable framerates with a GT 220 in 1920x1200?

On release day the game (for me) was about 3/10 on the playability scale. As of today, I would rate it a 8/10. It is perfectly playable, with only minor stuttering and a few issues with the server browser and game menu.

Except that you can't play Multiplayer at all right now.
 
Is anything special required in order to get the in-game Theater mode to work?

I get nothing when I check it... it says "play more games" lol but I've played alot of games already.

I saw from searching online that they have a Theater Beta thing on the main BO website.. do we need to register?

You don't have to do anything. It depends on the server you're playing on. I think that if you see something like "(3arc)democlient" in the spectators, then the match is being recorded and you can watch them later.
 
Anyone else got their stats reset? For some reason, mine reset to my Combat training rank...
 
I know my machine is outdated, but with everything low, this game runs worse then anything else I have played. No bias or anything, but even Crysis runs much smoother. MW2 ran great, but this is a slideshow and looks much worse.
 
After the piece of crap game decided not to save my last 6 games of rank ups / and XP achievements tonight thus keeping my rank much lower than it should be.... despite playing on a ranked server and being awarded all the XP's etc..

Ive actually gone back to play MW2 with my mate tonight. Who would have thought it....

This game is junk
