Im looking for something to play when I'm tired of dying in BFBC2. Im considering DAO and DoW2. Games will be purchased through Steam.

If I go with DAO is the Digital Deluxe pack worth the extra $15?

i voted DAO strictly on its length of SP and storytelling merits. Truly is a great game. I ALSO am a huge DOW fan and have played a ton of DOW/2 and will be picking up the expansion next week as well. Its a close call, if you plan on enjoying MP with DOW2 id check that out, but if you are looking for a nice long break and a great Sp experience, DOW2s is fine in its own right and fun, but DAO really can immerse you in a very complete package.

Id almost say its a toss up if i wasnt a sucker for Bioware and good RPGs.

I played and enjoyed Mass Effect 1 and 2, I definitely like Bioware games.

Dragon Age is $49.99 or $64.99 for the deluxe version. Dawn of War 2 is $29.99.

I realize they are completely different games which is why Im having a hard time deciding.

if you are at all concerned about a dialogue heavy High Fantasy RPG, id go DOW2. It has been a turnoff for some, but if you have an interest in that type of thing, it makes DAO GOTY material as far as im concerned. Everyone will be hopping ship on DOW2 for a bit when SC2 hits the shelves in a few months, but i suspect you would be done with either game by then anyway.

Is there any particular concern you potentially have with either title?
Im just trying to look for justifications on why id choose one over the other.

Dragon Age is ok but it's certainly not as polished as Mass Effect 2. It was a 7/10 game, as opposed to Mass Effect 2 and Dawn of War II, which are both easily 9/10 games.

Dawn of War II is so good. Even if you never touched the single player campaign (which is a little dull, imo) the multiplayer has endless replayability.

Im leaning towards DoW2 at the moment just based on price.

I have been waiting for DAO to go on sale again. I knew I should have grabbed it for $34.99 when it was on sale.

i dont even know the game DOA but its still going to be better then DoW2 no matter what.. theres a reason DoW2 is cheap.. the price should be a give away on howbad the game is..

As much as I liked DAO, I played it bugged because STEAM and their support is worthless. After thinking about the stress I went threw trying to fix the bugs, it really wasn't that worth it. I had to install the game like 4 times, del, reinstalled DLC's and still had warden keep bug. Only way I got past it was use console commands heh.

In any case, I'd go w/ whatever is new to you! I think newer is always better in terms of games.

i have played both extensively (on steam, no problems whatsoever even with mods on DAO) and have to say that this is a toss up.

both games offer a compelling value. in terms of single player, its going to be VERY difficult to beat a game like DAO. on the other hand, dow2 offers a very complete package (gameplay, visuals, sounds) and has multiplayer.

I want to give you a solid recommendation but I just love both of these games so damn much. really i think its about what genre you are in the mood for. either way you are in for a treat.

If money is such a large determinant, why not consider buying DAO used? Seems like the prices in this forum range between $25-30 shipped. Of course, I suppose it isn't much help if you are looking to have a true Steam copy.

DAO is a very good game that will deliver a satisfying SP experience. If you have an RPG itch, then I highly suggest it.

DoW2 I found to be a large disappointment as I was hoping for a game similar to DoW1 (of which I've invested many enjoyable hours in), but instead, it is much like CoH. Some people like RTS games that involve nearly no base building, so if that is your cup of tea, then it seems to be a good choice for the money.

If you love RPG's this isn't even in the realm of a fair poll. I personally prefer collectors edition of hard copies because they are actually "collectable." Many people prefer digital copies these days but that is all a matter of preference. If I was getting the digital copy though, i would choose the deluxe edition, you don't get any of the goodies that came with the CE hard copy (like the canvas map, ect.) The only special thing about the DD edition is that it includes wardens keep, but if you unlock the achievements, you can buy it anyways.

So, without a doubt, DAO. You decide on the edition

I'm sorry, but 99 out of 100 people on here will disagree on ME2. It was a mediocre shooter with RPG elements, same bullshit gambit played by Bioshock. Dragon Age was the first RPG in years to be comparable to the old days at Bioware (the Baldur's Gate days).

There is a DoW2 Gold set that has the new expansion that just came out. It is $40 on Steam right now, so I'd vote for that and wait for DAO to get a nice bundle price with its expansion and other goodies

Lol, poll results are overwhelmingly against my decision. The Gold Edition DoW2 was not out when I created this poll.

This is a good enough reason to buy it(plus it's awesome)

Going by this logic, MW2 must be the best game ever.

My same sentiment. Major disappointment with DoW2. It lost many DoW1 fans, myself included. I haven't even played Dragon Age and would prefer to go with it over DoW2.

I was a devoted DoW1 fan... i lost so much time with that game.. but despite the differences of DOW 1 & 2, I still like it. The similarities in gameplay with company of heroes are excellent in my opinion. It's a nice change of pace from the rts norm. I have dragonage as well it's a close one for me, but i chose dow2

I have Dawn of War 2 Chaos, havent played it yet since I started the download on Steam before I left for work today, but Dawn of War 2 was great on its own.

Its up to you! :)

I just picked up Chaos RIsing as well... i hope they bring the Necrons back in one of the expansions.. that was my favorite race!

I will still be getting Dragon Age: Origins someday when it goes on sale. Im on a forced budget with my games since I've ordered so many parts in the last week.

Chaos Rising's single player is so much better than vanilla DoW2's it almost seems like a completely different game.

Im playing the regular campaign from Dawn of War 2 and am enjoying it so far. So far I don't miss the base building. It helps that I've always liked the Games Workshop tabletop game though I've never played myself.

I would say you would be doing yourself a disservice not playing Dragon Age Origins. Where as the other one I think you could pass and it wouldn't be missed.

I think you can get a fix for both of your needs.

Get Dragon Age, unless you don't like a lot of dialog (I don't).

To cure your desire for DOW2.. forget DOW and get a Heroes of Newerth beta key. Or fire up DOTA if you have Warcraft3. You have two alternative options there (best choice being Heroes of Newerth which is quite the cult hit right now with all the elitist DOTA types).

Personally, I don't care for either game. I'd try out some other game demos on Steam. Tons of stuff to try, King's Bounty (might be available off steam as a demo), or Overlord.. tons of fun stuff (that I prefer more at least, all lighter games than the ones you mention). I hate games that consume a ton of my time so I prefer lighter games (King's Bounty being about as involved as I'd want to get), and shooters like Killing Floor and L4D2.

DAO is $34.90 with $2.99 shipping.

DoW II Gold Edition is $29.90 (same shipping price).

Both at the gamer that goes (2-day sale).

Hope you enjoy DAO whenever you do get the chance to own it.

DOA is awesome, i've not played DoW2 but the original wasnt very gripping. DOA is simply epic, fantastic game through and through.

Dragon Age Origins is obscenely overpriced here...AU$110 ($101 in US currency). Most PC games are released for AU$80-AU$90. So, I haven't got around to it yet.

Dawn of War II is fun for what it's worth. Apparently the multiplayer is pretty good if you can get past GFWL's nonsense.

Dawn of War 2 Gold proved to be the right decision for me at the moment. I like the game and it's easy to play a round or two in-between games of BFBC2. I think that Dragon Age: Origins, once I start playing, is going to consume all of my gaming time.

The game is obviously doing well or I'd think it would be cheaper on Steam by now.

I put over 35 hours each into Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 and that was just one playthrough a piece. I know Dragon Age is going to be time consuming to say the least, especially considering I'd be interested in multiple playthroughs.
