I wish it was just black and white, but there's a whole bunch of gray with these types of things. What I'm basically looking for is a 16:10 ratio with either a 23" or 24" monitor. The panel type really doesn't matter as long as it has a decent response time because I'm mainly gonna be using it for gaming. Oh and it'd be nice if it was 200-250 but I'm willing to go over if needed.

I've looked through the forums over and over and you guys gave some really nice suggestions, but I think I just worry myself because once I read someone who had a bad experience with a monitor I just think the whole thing is just bad. So I'd be really appreciative for your suggestions and helping me pull the trigger on something.

You're not alone in your frustration. It isn't because we have been inundated with so many high quality monitors we're unable to choose. LCD manufacturers understand their monopoly in this industry, and it has shown by flooding the market with unimpressive models, spreading misinformation, and artificially inflating prices.

When businesses like Nokia and AT&T going after manufacturers, you know then the consumer is really gettin' bent over. A quick google nets you this:

14 December 09 Taiwanese manufacturer Chi Mei
01 December 09 10 different companies, including big names like Epson, Hitachi, LG, Samsung, Sharp, and Toshiba
21 October 09 LG, Samsung, Chunghua, AU Optronics
12 November 08 LG Display of South Korea, Sharp of Japan and Chunghwa Picture Tubes of Taiwan

I would settle with the understanding that this should not be a purchase to agonize over. There is no company willing to stand above the rest, they are all in collusion. There is no diamond in the rough.

Either get what fits your needs (don't exceed) or vote with your dollar and wait for better. It's not a very uplifting idea, but when Kyle still owns Dell 3007s, which is technology released at Christmas of 2005, I think that tells you something. 5 years and there isn't enough innovation to give good reason to recommend more than the dell 3007.

OP if you're worried about purchasing a bad monitor then i suggest only purchasing them from places that offers the most hassle free returns.

If you know anyone with a costco membership, that would be a great place to start since they offer an in house 2nd year warranty.

There are other stores of course, just naming one off the top of my head.

I also have a 27.5" hanns-g variant, not necessarily recommending it but it's great for gaming, decent colors and sharpness, backlighting is uniform on my unit, and it's nice and big.
