Well i'm debating over the NP 5793 or the NP 8660. I like the 17 inch display but i also like the 15 inch display haha. Well for both im thinking of getting 1900X1200? I will be playing alot of games and blu-ray movies from these laptops. Which one do you reccomend?>

I would take the Sager 8660 over the 5793
The 8660 is built on the newer monteveina platform, which is more power efficient and faster than the previous generation santa rosa platform that the 5793 uses.
I would compare prices elsewhere. I would look at Xotic, they have very competitive prices, and I believe they have a better warranty. The head guy at Xotic, Justin Nolcte (I think thats his name) is on notebook review, and sometimes he will throw discounts out which you can use.
The Clevo M860TU had overheating issues on release, and I think they were fixed, but I am not sure of that. You may want to check out teh Sager/Clevo section on notebook review, I know it has been discussed their.

Other than that the build looks good. The 9800GTS is a top performing card, and paired with a decent processor and a 4th generation 7200rpm drive, and you are set.

I have a question along these lines. The sagers with the 17 inch have a WUGA vs WSXGA. I am going to use primarily for gaming. I was wondering if at that size monitor if the WUXGA 1900*1200 is needed or if the 1680*1050 is better since it will give me better frame rates with higher detail settings. Or do you think for nml computing and text and general use that won't be adequate? I just don't see the need for that resolution with laptops. Or am I missing something?

thanks

Personally, the best resolution for a 15" is 1680x1050. 1920x1200 on a 15" screen is too small/hard to read.
On a 17" the best resolution is 1920x1200, I think its the best resolution for that size (not too high, not too low)

So i shouldn't get the 1900X122 on the 15 inch? Idk this is a tough decision : /, i think as a college student though, a 15 inch would be a little easier to have

I'd get the 1680x1050. I used to always say 1920x1200 but the increased performance and decreased eyestrain make me think that 1680x1050 is the way to go.

If you look at the weights, the 8660 is only a pound lighter, so carrying it around is still about the same if you carry it in a laptop case. Its a different story if your going to carry it in your backpack because a 17" in a backpack is just too ridiculous to think about, and the 8660 is slightly thicker than your average 15.4" laptop, so it'll probably not fit into most backpack laptop sleeves. My S96j very tight in my backpack, its the same design as this model. Don't even think about just sticking your laptop in your backpack just with a think laptop case because you don't want to damage that baby. I would decide on how you would like your display, not weight or portability since it'll probably be the same.

5793 owner here (using it now!). It's not a bad laptop at all.

Pros:
Beautiful screen (1920x1200 glossy)
The keyboard is very sturdy and comfortable.
Very fast
Reliable

Cons:
LOUD.
Heavy (hey it's a 17" gaming notebook)
Exterior seems a little cheap
Speakers are not particularly good (they have a equalizer setting that helps)
Supposedly the front audio jacks are very fragile
No dedicated multimedia keys

Mine is basically a permanent small-footprint desktop. I never take it anywhere, so I can't speak for portability or battery life. I only turned on the wireless to test, it's the popular Intel 4965AGN so I don't expect any problems there.

Such a hard decision....I'm now thinking about that new asus laptop that came out. The 17 inch with 6gb of ram..but idk. I would prefer a gaming laptop with longer battery life..and somewhat of 15 inches. Does anyone else recommend another brand?

Hm, this is a Sager thread so...

But still Asus and Sager are good companies. I love the Sager resellers, they're always so understanding. But now we've given you all the info we can give. You gotta do a little research yourself and decide what's best for you. That doesn't mean go making a "Which ASUS is for me" thread, because I think I'm going to go crazy and might have to smack you. :D

Good luck any laptop will be a good choice.
